Ed's recent request for input about Alarm probs (here (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=193362)) includes a valuable bit of info unrelated to troublesome alarms... namely the Applications you are all using on your PPCs. As I scanned the thread, I was amazed at the wide list of different apps everyone is using, and found a few new programs to investigate. Then I got to thinking, the regular posters in here are a much better source of info about must-have programs than other sources ... :werenotworthy:
I would very much like to see what EVERYONE is using these days, not just those with battery challenges. New threads pop up every few months asking for this info, and it has been a while since I've seen one. So, let's start up the Xmas 2003 List to see what is in your latest crop of must-have apps that compliment the programs which already come loaded on PPCs.

To get it started, here's my current set of programs running on a iPaq 4150.

Of all my apps, this would be the shortlist of must haves, the ones I use everyday:

Work.
Pocket Informant - Best PPC app of all for me.
Web IS Mail - I'm still using PPC2002 so this works for me.
Calligrapher and Fitaly - The two best input methods.
Textmaker - Only way to go for word processing on the PPC
Repligo - Excellent document viewer.

Utilities.
Pocket Backup - Must have this for peace of mind. Saved me a few times.
Total Commander - My main file manager.
Remover - To get rid of all those trials I don't want to buy.
Battery Pack & Journal Bar - Keep my today screen uncluttered and just how I want it.

Fun.
Mobipocket Reader - My favorite eBook reader
Pocket MVP - For music and video.

List Pro (http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.htm)
HandBase (http://ddhsoftware.com/)

Hey. What's the difference between the two? I've been using ListPro for a while and decided to use the trial for HandBase but found that the latter did nothing that the former could not do.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd like to know the difference.

Oh yeah, and I made a thread about this a few days ago. Here's my original thread:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/posting.php?mode=editpost&p=192412

Could a moderator merge them? If not, here's my list:

ListPro - Allows me to satisfy my obsessive-compulsive organization fetish. Yummy.
Mastersoft Money - See above; only this program is better/nicer for finances than ListPro
Valksoft Space Reclaimer - Cleanliness is somewhat related to organization, so it turns me on.
Age of Empires Gold - damn fun game. Playing this and/or watching Lord of the Rings makes me want to become an archer and hunt stuff, like, ionno, birds or something.
Monopoly - another damn fun game, even though its easy and the computer is stupid. I still love the feeling when some unlucky bastard lands on my hotelled Boardwalk. Pay me!
Pocket Backup Plus - This is bloody well great. For those of us pissing our pants for fear that our Sandisk cards are gonna peter out any second now, this program allows us to backup to PC. That's cool. And the free PocketMon that comes with it is an absolutely great battery/memory monitor that tells you when to backup your files. Sweet.
CNetX Flash Format - Another comfort buy for us with Sandisks. The "Verify and Repair" makes me feel good.
Spb Pocket Plus - Cool launcher and alarm thingy. This was more of an impulse/boredom buy. Ah well.
TextMaker - A great program that many of us got on sale for much cheaper than regular price, but useless to me. But it was on sale!
Resco File Explorer - Because all the cool people are doing it, mom.
Snails - Free for subscribers. Whoopeee! It's fun until you beat it, then it just takes up space.
Gamebox Classics - First game I bought. Now it collects dust with Snails while I play Age of Empires and think about shooting arrows at chickens. Here chook chooks!
Pocket Informant - My trial version trials were terrible until I stopped clicking the tabs like a madman. As soon as I used the program calmly I had no problems with it. And it's good, too.
Audible Player - Because listening to poetry is easier than reading it.
Fitaly - Stylus entry that allows input entry of up to 80 wpm. I'll soon be at 90 ("soon" meaning a couple of years from now). Oh yeah, and check my signature. I'm coming for you Jenneth. Watch yaself!

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd like to know the difference.

Well, briefly, HandBase is a relational DB with tables, fields, forms, reports and so on, you can use it as a list app but lacks some features List Pro has for such purpose, I would say List Pro is an advanced list app with SOME DB functions, although it's able to calculate totals within lists you can't use it for complex calculations between records and tables, it's meant for other purposes such as shopping lists, structured ideas, etc. Just try some of the free DB's available at DDH site and you'll find the main difference easy.

HTH.

Pocket Informant - My trial version trials were terrible until I stopped clicking the tabs like a madman. As soon as I used the program calmly I had no problems with it. And it's good, too.

Glad to hear you've gotton this program to work properly... it's great! I can't live without it :) Best software purchase i've ever made... just hope i'm entitled to the v5 update.

Programs I can't live without:
Pocket informant I love it. Haven't tried AF and don't see why i should! PI is brilliant!
Pocketbackup premium Saved me hours and hours of activesync backups once i installed this program. It's a gem! You can actually hard-reset your device without having to cry.
Resco file explorer/pictureviewer Best picture viewing program in my opinion and the file explorer is so much better than the PPC one. Plus it lets me zip/encrypt files to stop my friends stealing my serial numbers... (which HAS happened :devilboy: )
Pocketbible NIV/LAB Costs as much as a hard copy but you never ever have to reach for a concordance again and you can have it in your pocket 24/7 :D
iSilo Only because I have so many medical texts in this format.
Listpro Use it for all my study notes, lists... recently used it to organise a dinner/LOTR sesh! Lovely to be able to make checklists and view them at a glance!
Batterypack 2004 and SPB gprs monitor My two essential (though gprs monitor is a bit of a luxury) today plug-ins. I don't care about the program bar all that much (though i still love it) but anybody who doesn't have a task-manager/close button should have one!

Thinking of buying anthelion.... but apart from textmaker/repligo/calligrapher i think i have almost all the programs i'd ever want!
