I have an ipaq 2200, and i let my son use it.
then i had a problem. a very big problem.
I had been locked out. he had somehow managed to create a password.
my question is: how can i "restore factory settings" like a hard reset on a palm?
i know i will lose all the information, but luckily i dont have anything important on it.
cheers.
p.s are there any important updates that i should install on this device? i just got it.

A hard reset is carried out by pressing buttons 1 (calendar), 4 (iTask) and the reset button with the stylus. This will restore the device to factory condition. This is in the documentation provided on the Companion CD for your device

There are some updates to consider installing depending on your use

1 - Bluetooth update (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/HandheldiPAQ/us/download/19650.html)

2 - MSN Messenger update (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/msnmessenger/pocketpc.mspx)

3 - Microsoft Reader update (http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp)

Be aware that if you aren't using any of these programs/features theat installing the updates are not neccesary and will use up soem of your storage RAM. For me, I have only installed the MSN Messenger update (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/msnmessenger/pocketpc.mspx).

Note that on the 22xx series you have to hold in the reset button for a given number of seconds, otherwise it will merely do a soft reset. Check the docs for the actual time. I had some trouble with trying to hard reset my 2215 when I first bought it (I was trying to remove some third party software that crashed the machine on start-up) as I wasn't holding down the reset button long enough.

Good luck!
