Why don't you use the VoiceCentral from www.fonix.com? It is great too.

Trying it now, however it can't seem to get the numbers correct.

I think the Microsoft voice command is a useless stuff. I have had it for more than a week it hardly ever get anything correct. Worst still, the voice used in the program is never clear. I am just thinking of writing to Microsoft for a refund.

Took a few minutes last night out of my schedule, worked a drop with Fonix and it actually works very well for the low price and to fulfill the need of a voice dialer. The trick is clearly to associate your own voice with the number as the phone has trouble guessing.
If you attach your voice saying "Office" and you use the device and say "Call Office" it seems to work 100% of the time. :D

My experience with MS Voice Commander is very different: It works great! It's quite good in the car for dialing the phone and for getting my next appointment information.
One thing I noticed - you need to pause after it prompts you or it will miss your answer. For example, when it asks "Correct?" there is a delay before it is ready to hear you say "yes" or "no". While it displays the mike to indicate when it's ready, if you are driving you can't (well you shouldn't  ) be looking at the screen.
Have a safe and happy New Year everyone! :)

I've tried to buy it today from Handango, but I got a meesage saying that MS restricted sales to my country.
At least I really would love to try it, but neither a trial version exists!
Any ideia, how to get it?
Thanks.

Because it doens't use "training", Voice Commander is very dependent on regional acents. For this reason, Microsoft doesn't feel that it would work very well for accents outside the USA.

I suppose you could try to get a friend in the USA to order it for you. But for the reason I noted above, you will most likely be disappointed with its reliability.

Just as a side note I removed Fonix
It only worked 10% of the time.

Actually though, the USA is pretty diverse in terms of accents. Does the Microsoft product recognize all types of common accents in the USA, from southern to New England to Midwestern to African-American, Latino, to all the different accents of the many immigrants who live here?
If it can understand all those accents, one would think that it could understand any accent speaking English anywhere in the world.
Of course, other languages are a different story. As PPCs are used worldwide, I would hope that they plan to eventually release the product to work with many different languages and accents.

I thought that too, and I don't know the answer. I can say it works well for me, but then I'm from Southern California, so I don't have an accent.

I'm also in Southern California, and I sure hear a lot of different accents here. (Not that there is a SoCa accent, that I know of, just that everyone came here from other places.)

Another question about MS Voice Command.
I understand it is for Smartphones as well as PPCs.
I currently have an IPAQ 2210. I don't have a smartphone or PPC Phone.
However, I think I might purchase a Smartphone within the next year. I don't think it will replace the PPC however, as the screen is much smaller, etc. I think I'll use both.
The question is--if someone with both a PPC and a Smartphone buy "Microsoft Voice Command", can they use it on both devices? Or would that person have to purchase it twice to do so?
I understand it is for Smartphones as well as PPCs.
Actually, no. Voice Command is currently only for Pocket PCs, and Pocket PC Phones, but not SmartPhones.
As for the licensing. According to the end user license agreement, unfortunately it states:
Installation and Use. You may install one (1) copy of the Software Product on a single computer that you use to exchange data and software with a single mobile electronic Device running Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition to (i) download the Software Product from such computer onto the Device running Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition; and (ii) to use the Software Product on such Device. If you do not have a valid license to use Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition, you shall not use this Software Product. Any other use of the Software Product is prohibited....
Actually, for a computer company, this is not worded very well. For example, my desktop is used to "exchange data and software with multiple mobile electronic Devices running Pocket PC..." So by the way this is worded, I'm violating the license if I don't delete all the partnerships but the one I'm going to install Voice Command on.
Also, I've never understood this business of:
If you do not have a valid license to use Pocket PC...
Since the software is in ROM, what would be the situation of having a use for some Pocket PC software without having a valid PPC license? :?

Lets see---the Governor of California buys Microsoft Voice Command to use with his PPC. As he's barking commands to it in his car, it doesn't recognize his accent, although he lives in the USA, where it is supposed to work, where he is the governor of the largest state. As it doesn't recognize his voice, he gets angrier and angrier  , yelling at the device louder and louder, hoping volume would help, but the PPC doesn't respond at all. Finally, he gets so mad he throws the PPC through the window, and drives right up to Redmond, Washington, and terminates Bill Gates!
