Hi, I have had my hp2215 for about one month now. I love it!
This forum helps me a lot to find answers to my simple yet obvious questions.
Now I am trying to see if I can do Instant Message to my buddies. But I am having problem finding Yahoo Instant Messenger for PDAs. All of my friends are using Yahoo IM.

Is there Yahoo IM for pocket pc 2003?
If there is one, where can I get it?

Thank you for your help.
Happy Holidays to everyone! :D

Yahoo used to have a pocket pc client but they since lslosed the ports needed to connect the ppc client to their network. There've been reports of the client working if you use a proxy server but I've never tried it so I can't give any more details on it.

Well, that's it for Yahoo IM then. :( should start telling my friends to install either MSN Messenger because my hp2215 came with MSN Messenger.

Thank you for your quick response. It helped me to redirect my search for Instant Messenger software.

I did a search on this site and found this program "Webmessenger Pocket PC". It says that it's compatible with PPC2003. It doesn't give a very good view of the screen, you have to register and account on their website, and its $30.

However, it works with several different messenging services.

I've got the same device and I was looking for an AIM equivalent to your problem a couple of weeks ago. This sounds ok, but it's a little too pricey for instant messenger and from what I can see of the screen... its kinda bland for $30 :? The only cool thing is that it works with 2003. I may have to go this route myself. :(

I'll check this site out. Hope it will work. Thanks for your replys.

Any luck?

What exactly are people using for daily Yahoo IM chat?

I don't think that's for Yahoo IM... I explored the link you sent and it looked more for messages :-)

What I've got so far:

1. Some dear friends that use Yahoo with whom I want to chat :D

2. Yahoo's own IM client (1.0) which will not log in. I looked at some message boards and they say it SHOULD work with a Proxy, but I don't know exactly that that means. Would need a walkthrough, or talk to someone who's actually DOING it.

3. IM+ I tested it for the 7 day trial and on day 4 of the trial wasn't able to connect to Yahoo. On their support forum, lots of people have problem, I changed what they said to change, no dice. Anyone using IM+ successfully?

4. Tried a Jabber client which worked fine on the PPC, but couldn't quite get everything interconnected. Probably could print out the docs and wipe out everything and start over and get that one working. Is there a Howto/Walkthrough on end-to-end Jabber config re: PocketPC and Yahoo?

What am I missing?

THE REAL QUESTION:

I would love to hear from ONE PERSON out there who is chatting with Yahoo Messenger people on a daily basis from their PocketPCs. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I checked out both iMov and Agile last night, and Agile seemed to work, but not consistetly? ie it connected the first time and all seemed to work, but second time it refused to connect until I reboot the device. Even then, it wouldn't let me add new contacts? :(

iMov was even worse, I wasn't able to get it working with Yahoo at all... Seemed to want to connect to a Jabber server, even when I specified I wanted Yahoo? Still kept asking what Jabber server to connect to.

I don't remember where I saw this.. it may have been in another thread on this site.. but here's a free Yahoo client that works on PocketPCs. It's based on one of the sourceforge projects. The site is basically just a place holder for the download file, I was a little apprehensive about running a CAB file I knew nothing about but so far it has worked great if all you want is Yahoo IM on your PPC.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your problems with Agile. I've used it successfully on several occasions, but admittedly, I'm not a heavy IM user and don't have a whole lot of friends signed on.
