I have a iPAQ 5455 with WM 2003 and all updates.
I have heard kicked arround that someday i will be able to use my 802.11b connectivity in the same way i currently use my cell phone. I am talking about a 802.11b connection directly to the cell phone towers. Is this a reality now, someday or total BS?

You probably heard about VOIP, which is converting voice to data and transmitting it through the Internet. It has nothing to do with cell phone towers.
I work for Cox Communications in San Diego, and we are looking at an option that looks something like this. We cut a special type of Wireless router / cable modem device into the existing cable plant, and use existing frequencies to move the data to and from the internet. the range is about 5 miles, and works well. We were beta testing the technology, but nothing firm is in place. Here in SD, we have more hot spots than you can shake a stick at. it seems like we have a starbucks coffee house every 100 feet or so, creating their own waps.
The future's so bright I gotta wear shades.......
