Remember the Asus A8100 that we posted about a few weeks back? I've been informed (and this is unsubstantiated at this time) that the A8100 will be released in Q2 2004 and will cost around $600 USD. No clarification on whether it will be a CDMA or GSM phone, or what markets it will be released in. Stay tuned!

OH BABY! :rock on dude!:

This is why my 3650 is still in my pocket. There are way to many cool phones coming down the pike for me to be bothered switching yet. This Asus is one of them...

I was reading here

http://www.google.de/search?q=cache:lOekbEdeZJgJ:www.pconline.com.cn/digital/textlib/pda/p01/10311/243005.html+%2BA8100+%2BAsus+%2BWindows+%2BPocket&hl=de&ie=UTF-8

that its dimensions are
135x77x17,6mm
and weight is 170g.

It looks nice but this one of the largests PPCs on the market.

I'll wait for the LG model with a 2,8" screen and Nokia 7650 form factor, that is pocketable!

Looks like an amaxing device, and no doubt it is, but 64 meg of RAM, 400 MHz Xscale255 processor?
Let's see some progression, the Tosh's have PXA263 and etc in their ppcs... We've been at a default 400 MHz for a couple years now, and yes granted higher powered processors equals more battery consumption, but it seems as though all the pocket pc's are stopping at this 64RAM/64ROM 400 MHz proc./3.5" screen boundary, and the only one who's progressing is Toshiba, and well isn't that ironic!

whats the difference between a PXA263 and a Xscale255?

Quite a few things. USB host, low power consumption, and perhaps SSP support are some of the most important difference.

One nice thing is that the page you link to suggests that this phone has both CF and SD.

I can't find much info on the LG model, although I did read that it has 192MB of memory. I assume this would be 64ROM and 128RAM. Not shabby if correct. Are there any pictures of this around?

If the $600.00 price is accurate this Asus might be a pretty good deal The P900 is selling for up to $1,500.00 on UK eBay for unlocked ones. It is rather nice but not at that price.

As far as Pocket PCs go, it looks pretty cool. But if it's bigger than a 5500 (and that's pretty big), that can't work.
