Just bought the Socket SDIO Bluetooth Card for my Toshiba E755 and it doesn't work.

After browsing their site for a few hours I see now that this card is not compatible with the Toshiba E755 cuase the E755 does not have SDIO Now! installed. Can I download this software? Where? Help. :)

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but one cannot download BSquare's SDIO Now! software and driver. It's a ' feature' the device maker must integrate into their product. ( or release a ROM thingy )

Currently the ONLY Toshiba handheld that has the SDIO Now! software onboard is the Toshiba e800 ( PPC 2003 only )

For others that may read this, here's the PDF file of handhelds and PPCCE's that can and cannot use Socket's SDIO products for Bluetooth, WLAN, and SDIO Barcode scanning...

http://www.socketcom.com/pdf/SDIOCompatibilityMatrix.pdf

Edit* After rereading the compatibility matrix, I see the Toshiba e400 also has the SDIO Now! software onboard. ( PPC2003 only ) Whoops!

Me needs glasses. :bangin:

Bummer. I hope I can return the card to Buy.com . They should take it back. Not that the compatibilities were hidden on sockets site (I see that now) but they really should have listed incompatible devices more clearly on their front page for the card and not as a PDF. kind of sucky of them.

Alex,

Front page? I disagree. The front page is clearly the guide for all of Socket's connectivity products, company news, and resources ( SOS ) to help users troubleshoot problems they may be having.

Both the compatibility matrix and compatibility issues are clearly indicated on the Socket Bluetooth SDIO webpage, which, IMO, is the proper place for those links.

Sorry. I meant the front page of the actual product page not the front page of the main site.

I think that the products that aren't compatible sould be listed in the bullet boints on the product page.

Since they point out an HP issue they should either put the other devices here or at list link to their other pages: Compatibility Issues and Compatibility Matrix in this bulet point list.

[quote]Only Pocket PCs running SDIO Now! software are compatible with the Socket SDIO Connection Kit including the HP iPAQ 3950 and 3955 models with the latest ROM update. You can download the ROM update from HP’s website, click here. [\quote]

I don't think it is enough for them to say "Only Pocket PCs running SDIO Now! software are compatible" since that is really asuming that the end user has real knowledge of the device and is not a "general" user. My mom would have know idea what that is or even how to find out if the device has it.

I know their is buyer be ware but their should also be some acountability on the manufactures parts. I'm just getting tierd of the ammount of extnsive research you have to do to buy anything tech related. Don't get me wrong sometimes it's fun digging around but that's cause I like tech. But the average user isn't too thrilled with the idea of doing this extensive research.

That was a rant. lol

Alex,

I can't blame you for ranting. It's frustrating. The big screwup, IMO, is Toshiba did their own SDIO ' standard ' before the SDIO standard was even ratifued!

Hence... incompatibility of SDIO products.

The industry, whether WiFi or Bluetooth, make it SO difficult for new ( or even experienced) users to figure out what will work with what.

Their all shooting themselves in the foot, IMO.

Ok, Thats my rant! 8O

Good luck!
