Ok, I'm using Outlook 2003 and having the exact problem mentioned here when I try to send a certain message that is going out to a distribution list:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/outlook-users/message/25378?source=1

The problem is that neither of those links mentioned seem to work, so I'm drawing a blank as to how to solve this problem.

Anyone encountered this issue before?

Did you solve this Jason? I never encountered this error but I think it might be more due from the smtp settings / server setup than Outlook 2003.

Nope, I wasn't able to get my email to a distribution list to go out - I had to use a different SMTP server, and out it went. It's very strange - I could send "normal" email messages through the same SMTP, but anything with that distribution list wouldn't send...

It depends what smtp you were using. An isp can limit the no. of recepients in a distribution list. Windows 2000 Server smtp has a limit of 100 and Exchange 2000 is 5000 if I am not mistaken.

Right - but this was only 12 people. And the SMTP should give me an error saying that there are too many recipients...this was more like Outlook itself was dying on me. Utterly strange. I'm really not pleased with Outlook 2003 when it comes to stability & speed... :?

Yeah - I have a question about that. We have Office 2002 Pro and Im afraid to put the 2003 Pro disks in and upgrade. We have the disks, Im not too sure - and the look of the new Frontpage scares me. I guess I could install the new Office and then regret it and go back?

Justin, You can always go back if you do not like it! Personally Outlook 2003 is worth the upgrade and have been using it since March (BETA Testing for MS) without any problems. As for Frontpage it got removed with the standard suite - just use Dreamweaver - Frontpage sucks!

Jason,

Some servers will not allow sendings if the TO and CC fields are both blank. If you put the distribution list in the BCC field, and left the others blank, this could cause a problem.

I was using Outlook 2003 during the beta and loved it. I haven't had the chance to install the final release yet. Hopefully I'll get to that in the new year.

It turns out it's something far more obscure - it was a single name in the distribution list that was causing the whole thing to fail, namely because one of the names in the distribution list matched the name of the same person in my Exchange alias list on the hosted Exchange server...bleh...I don't even understand if fully myself. Needs more investigation, but I know what the problem is now at least. :?
