Pocket PC Compatibility w/ Non-Outlook E-Mail/PIM

I'm thinking of buying my wife one of the new slim HP handhelds but her office doesn't use outlook for e-mail, calendar, etc. Can Pocket PC devices synch with other software?

I've been happily syncing with Lotus Notes at work for the last year or so with no problems, still using Outlook at home.

Lotus Notes requires extra software to sync, I use mNotes (www.commontime.com) which is pricey but works brilliantly.

What software does her office use, then? There are various 3rd-party sync tools, but it's predicated on what you want to sync with.
