View Full Version : MSN Messenger over wireless VPN not work - Reverse VPN setup...

Hello

I have a wireless network. THis uses a VPN. I have the network access the internet. So I set up the exclude addresses to *.*.

Basically, it means that the iPAQ will ask my VPN for a web site like www.microsoft.com, the VPN goes and gets it, and serves it back to the iPAQ. When I browse to a web page in PIE, I see the little popup saying it is logging onto the VPN. Then the page appears in PIE.

Is anyone else using this configuration?

Now this works for internet browsing fine. But I have two problems.

1) This does not work for MSN Messenger. What happens here is that I may be connected to the VPN after just browsing internet with PIE, but then when I try to log onto MSN Messenger, it immediately isconnects the VPN, and then cannot log on. What I want to see is MSN Messenger pop up the VPN logon message, log on to the VPN, and then connect through that to the MSN Messenger server.

2) The iPAQ is disconnected from the VPN fairly quickly after requesting a page. Maybe 15 to 30 seconds. Then I am always logging onto the VPN on a regular basis. This is not a big hasstle, but it would be quicker if I could stay connected to the VPN.

My understanding is that the normal way to set up is that you log into an Access Piont, which has direct access to the internet. Then you myst log onto the VPN for local network. As you can see, ours is different. We log into the VPN for everything. It is through the VPN that we access the internet. I do not have the power to change this setup.

Any help with this would be great.

Thank you
David
