Does anyone know of a utility to shut off your screen that is specifically designed for WM 2003?
I have a couple that were designed for PPC 2002 - and they sort of work... they do shut off the screen, but it wakes up again on its own for some reason.
Thanks

Are you referring to an app that will blank the screen without shutting the device off, like the one in Windows Media Player?

Yes - precisely!

Can't you just hold down the power button for a few seconds? Why use an app?

That just turns the backlight off, not the entire LCD. I'm not aware of any apps which do this.

I actually just use wmp and have it run in the backqround. That's what I do too. Odd that MS Reader doesn't support this feature given it plays Audible content.

I use SleepScreen (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14126&highlight=sleepscreen) for this purpose. The only issue I've found with it is that it doesn't like to be activated via buttons. Screen taps work wonderfully to activate it (I have it mapped to a location on GigaTask) and buttons work to wake the screen up again.

Thanks. But, unfortunately, when I tried it I encountered the same problem that I have found with every other screen shut off utility currently available. The screen keeps waking up on its own.
Some background...
For some reason, my iPAQ does not shut off automatically when cradled and on external power - I've checked the settings several times and tried numerous variations. I am pretty sure that it is being caused by another application.
So - I thought the next best thing would be to at least shut down the screen. I've been told that leaving the screen on will not cause any extra wear and tear - but I am more than a little bit skeptical. I've seen too many postings from people with dead / malfunctioning screens.
So again, the problem... I've found several third party apps that will shut off the screen. But the screen keeps waking up on its own! Grrrrr! I think that same application is the culprit. It is starting to really piss me off!
What I want is an application that shuts the screen off and keeps it off until I say so - by pushing a specific button three times or something like that.
I can't believe that no one has developed something like this!

I've been using PHM Powertoys (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/download.asp). Their screen shut off app works good and I haven't had it let the screen turn back on, at least not yet. :)
