I thought we hit this before, but apparently not -- a company called Tiger Telematics is going to release a CE .NET-based gaming handheld, complete with 3D gaming, SMS, a camera, Bluetooth, and GPS. That's a pretty full featureset if you ask me!

You can check out the official product webpage here, although it seems to be mostly Flash-based fluff at this point.

If they can hit a good price-point with this, it could be very cool. :D

That looks big! The screen looks to be a 3.5 in qvga. I think the zodiac will be the better choice with half vga and a nice develper list, and decent size.

I could have sworn the Flash presentation said a 2.8" screen...
I cant take any other Tomb Raider port... :2gunfire:
just port another old thing... Daytona USA, GTA, Golden Axe, Alex kidd in miracle world, castlevania,Zelda, starfox, grand turismo, flashback, quake...
whatever other game
but please, no more tomb raider!

Hmmm. Hard to tell how well something like this would do. With so many features I can't see it being cheap (GPS alone would do a good job of jacking the price up.) which would exclude it as a device for little [insert some kids name here] for X-mas (Or whenever it comes out.)
And price plays a major roll in handheld gaming systems because you are going up against the Game Boy. Several other companies have tried the more featured device "thing" over the years and time and again Game Boy has blown them out of the water.
Also as a video game system I don't know about CE. This was tried with Dreamcast by having the option to use CE as the language with the idea that ports from windows would be easier. No one, AFAIK, bothered using CE because it wasn't close enough to the metal. CE.NET may be more efficient so this may end up being a moot point.
*shrugs* If nothing else its an interesting device.
PS- No more tomb Raider. Please for the love of god no more!!! Well maybe if its nak…. Never mind. *Washes his mind out with some soap.*

Right, 2.8" horizontally... means 3.5" diagonal size (provided, that it's 320x240 with square pixels)

Good idea for an adult handheld gaming device! Maybe thats what is lacking on the market

I think not. The Dreamcast has a ton of software written for it by home-users. Just go to DC Emulation (http://www.dcemulation.com). I love the Super Nintendo Emulator and it is one of the best pieces of software for the DC.

Looks cool, I'd have to see it up close for sure. Right now Zodiac is the one to beat.

Hmmm maybe Microsoft could make a PPC Xbox edition. Imagine being able to connect to the Xbox live network using a handheld device and wifi. They could blow the nokia n-gage out of the water. Not that it would take much of a wind

Urm, this thing is mostly intended for kids and has a slowass processor to boot.
Nothing intresting here.

dean_shan,
Virtually all of the homebrew Dreamcast software is written to use KallistiOS, a homebrew OS written fro the Dreamcast. I don't think anyone actually uses the CE OS, and if they do they are probably using it illegally because you're supposed to buy a dev kit from MS and pay them, etc.

I'm talking official games not games created by end users. Things like NFL2K or 2K1. AFAIK none of the officially released Dreamcast games were built on CE.
But this does beg the question would using CE open up the possibility of garage development of games. If such a thing could occur this system could become a monster that could kick the crap out of the game boy. Graphics be danged. Some of the best gaming I’ve ever done has been with some of the crappiest graphics I’ve ever seen.
This is the sort of device you see on April 1st :)
Would anybody here actually buy it ?

I'd agree, the Tapwave looks really cool. Pity they don't appear to be selling outside of US.

There were a few games that used WinCE on the Dreamcast, however they really weren't much. I know those Sega emulator packs used them.

Sega Rally2 amongst others was programmed under it.
True tough that most programers siùmply didnt bother, apart from bits of code to aid with conectivity.
