View Full Version : Are CFs obsolete?

I'm looking to upgrade my Casio E-125 that I've had since the model was released. I would dearly like to be able to use my cache of CF cards, and see that, as far as I can tell, the Dell Axim X-5 is the only model that uses CF cards. Is this so? Assuming that one of my critical features is a CF slot, which model should I be looking at?

Thanks for any input/advice.

Thanks for the pointer. I also notice that the Toshiba e550g has a CF slot. But at $499 it's a bit over what I was hoping to spend (wanted to keep it under $300). Is it worth the extra money?

The e550g is a previous generation model with no upgrade path - I wouldn't recommend you get it. If CF is important, get an iPAQ 2215 - amazing device!

...iPAQ 2215 - amazing device!
BUT unfortunately one without a scroll wheel (button) :bad-words:

Which is why the Axim X5 is nice! Oh, wait...it has a crappy scroll wheel.

If you'd like integrated Bluetooth or a smaller device, look into the 2215. If you don't mind trading size for cost, the X5 is great. We have reviews of both devices right here!

My Casio has a scroll button... can't say I ever used it. So I don't think I will miss it.

My local Costco just happened to have the 2215, so now I'm going to be busy making the change. I'll be giving my Casio to my husband so he can decide whether he "needs" a PDA.

Thanks everyone for the advice and input. I think I will be happy with my choice.

The Toshiba 755 and 805 both have dual slots. CF cards are not obsolete, even though many people dislike them. With 5GB MicroDrives available now, they are vastly superior to the max of 512MB on an SD card.

1 GB SD cards are now available for about $250, and 2 GB cards are rumored to be announced very soon. CompactFlash is faster and cheaper (at least about the 256 MB area), but some people just want smaller and smaller memory cards.

I just bought a IPAQ 2210 because of the CF slot. I already have a bunch of CF cards that I want to be able to use, I have a HP548 and a Canon Power Shot A70. Plus, it seems that there is a lot more accessories that use the CF slot.

By the way, I'm giving the HP548 to my husband  to replace his PalmIII XE.

You want irony? I made such a fuss about needing a PDA with a CF slot because I had so many CF cards.

And now I CAN'T FIND THEM!!!!!

I found two of the at least seven I have. The others have decided to vanish. GRRRRRRR!!! :bad-words:

Oh well; as my mother used to say, cleaning up takes less time than searching.
