Hi guys,

I am just getting into digital video and am looking for recommendations on a large camcorder bag. My main problem is the fact that all the stores around here only carry small or mid-sized bags, so I was looking for any recomendations or thoughts before I take the plunge at buying one online sight-unseen. The case needs to be large enough to hold the following:

- Panasonic DV-953 Camcorder and all accessories and tapes
- Cannon G2 digital camera w/ Lensmate and all accessories
- Cannon Speedlight 420EX (will be buying soon)
- Dell Axim X5 + all my cf cards, wi fi cards, etc.

I already have a small camcorder bag and a great Tamrac bag for my G2, but I would like to get a large bag for the occasions where I would like to carry all my equipment. Thanks in advance.

BTW - Jason, what is the timeframe for Digital Media Thoughts?

That Panasonic camera - how does it compare in size to the Canon GL2?

DMT will soft-launch in December if everything goes according to plan...

He needs to fit a full DV camera in there - much too big for the Podzilla.

Yeah, that's the one I was going to recommend too, but I wanted to know how his DV cam compared in size to the Canon GL2 - I have a media bag from Roadwired, and the Canon GL2 just barely fits - if his DV cam is bigger, it wouldn't be a good choice.

BTW, you should be able to edit your posts - just click on the edit button. :-)

The "Official" Dimensions for the DV Camera are as follows, although they must be measuring with the LCD screen open.:

Height: 5.125 in
Width: 10.625 in
Depth: 8.5 in

My guess is that the dimensions are slightly smaller than the GL-2, But I can't find the specs for the GL-2 now. All I can say about the GL-2 is  . I would have loved to get one, but just couldn't find the extra money for a first time DV purchase. Maybe down the road.

I was looking very seriously at the Roadwired bags (the $129 and the $179 model), but I was hoping someone had some first hand experience with the them. I am going to be carrying $3,000 or so of equipment, so I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a good case.

Great news on DMT  I have been looking forward to it since I got your book.

Aha! Yes, your camera is smaller than my GL2, so it would fit very nicely inside the bag. You should be able to fit your digital camera inside the main compartment as well, or in the zippered pouch under the top. It would also fit in the front pouch, but there's not much protection there. I adore my Roadwired Media Bag - it's very well-built (all their stuff is) and has an awesome number of pouches. I'm actually supposed to be reviewing the bag, but I think I'll wait and publish the review with DMT. ;-)

If you're so inclinced, you can order the bag from our affiliate link here:

:D

(and just to clarify, I have the $179.95 "pro" version)

Thanks again Jason. I think I'm sold. I will be ordering the pro version very soon. Is there any way you can send me an affiliate link for this product on amazon? I would like to use a gift certificate that I have for them but I also want to support the site at the same time.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I tried searching for it on Amazon, but couldn't find it. Could you give me the URL and I'll give you the affiliate version of that URL? Thanks!
