http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com

With the forthcoming launch of Digital Media Thoughts, I wanted to ask a question to those of you who are as into digital media as I am: where do you go for your daily fix? I'm looking to form cooperative partnerships with the digital media community in the same way I have with Pocket PC Thoughts and Smartphone Thoughts. The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding sites that do what we do here.

dpreview.com is a site I visit often for digital photography, but I haven't found any good sites for digital audio and digital video, the other two areas of focus we'll be covering on Digital Media Thoughts. So, suggestions?

I have relied upon Steve (http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm) for years now. He's thorough and seems to have a good overall knowledge of the hardware arena.

Indeed, I also have his site bookmarked - it's great!

Since I'm just getting into digital video (thanks again for the help the other night, Jason!) I would love to find a decent site for the topic. I haven't done too much looking, but www.camcorderinfo.com looked interesting.

I'm a huge photography buff (savings my pennies to upgrade my equipment) and love dpreview.com and some Nikon specific sites. You can spend hours in the forums!

I'm anxiously awaiting digitalmediathoughts!

I'm just entering this realm, so I haven't really started looking around yet. So far, the only place I get good digital video info is here. :)

Ditto on NeoWin.net. While its main focus is on Windows/PC technology, they cover a lot of digital media topics as well, and offer great content.

For digital Photography, I too surf to www.dpreview.com and www.steves-digicams.com

I also regularly visit www.robgalbraith.com. If one is REALLY serious about high end digicams, Rob's is THE place to go. For the average consumer, it's not. One other is www.dcresource.com. The site news isn't all that stellar, but the discussion groups are the most helpful of any I've found, at least for batteries and removable media. www.imaging-resource.com has some generally good stuff, and in their reviews section, he's got the most rediculously rigorous comparison of NiMH AA batteries on the planet (like 8 pages with numerical comparisons); look for "The Great Battery Shootout."

For general geek stuff, it's www.gizmodo.com as mentioned by others, www.extremetech.com (which has gone downhill a bit in the last year). Also, MIT's www.technologyreview.com is not to be missed for general upcoming science and media stuff. They generally don't get caught up in all the bs hype about stuff prematurely, like, say, fuel cells. Sure, they COVER fuel cells, but haven't heard them say things like "it's just around the corner" like everyone else has for the last 10 years. Note: unless you're an MIT grad, you have to pay for technologyreview.

Newsy stuff I find at www.news.com, www.newsfactor.com, and, yes, even the technology part of www.cnn.com, but that's just to see what the masses think is important. Good to keep up with the Jones's. Or really, keep back with them.

Ah, for a moment I thought it wouldn't make it in 2003 (it is close to December). Congrats on the launch.

Personally I just check dpreview, imaging resource and dcresource for digital hardware news. robgalbraith is another one I visit from time to time. Each of them has their own strengths; dpreview and imaging resource are fairly in-depth (though they make mistakes from time to time), and dcresource is great of the non-techies - it's one site my tech-disinclined friends understand!

Though, as I've said before, this realm isn't just about gizmos; it's also very much an art. However sites on the web tend to veer towards both extremes, something I lament greatly; with geeks who really shouldn't be near a camera complaining about the slightest bit of technical defect when their own skills should be the greatest concern, and arty-farty sites whose works remind me of a bad dream after really long night of hard liquor.

I usually check out the forums around here for that info as I'm only really into audio right now and just barely getting interested in photography. I hope to get a small yet decent digital camera for Christmas.

For digital camera, try www.dcresource.com

For Audio review, try www.audioreview.com

I read http://luminous-landscape.com/ occasionally. I believe Michael is Canadian, which is always a plus, and he takes fabulous landscape shots.

I'm not a big fan of Luminous Landscapes in terms of articles, but the pics are nice. =)
