Since Brighthand announced the new Windows Mobile Help section, I decided to take a look at the whole Windows Mobile section and find things I thought were goofy. For example, in the Windows Mobile 2002 "About the Software" section, we see this:

What's more, the Windows environment lets you run multiple applications at once. Want to listen to music and read your e-mail? Unlike any other PDA on the market today, you can do it on the Pocket PC!

On an earlier panel of the same section, we have...

Pocket Word is like a trusted friend.

Or better yet, check out this little nugget: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2002/images/familiarnotes.gif Goodness, if there was ever a false impression given by advertising is that handwriting like that can be recognized by that program.

And hey, wait a second... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2002/images/lancards.jpg...

Isn't that a HandEra 330??? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2002/wirelesslan.mspx

On transcriber, I've written a bit sloppier that that and it correctly converts it. The key is ensure you are writing as close to 90° from the direction of the alignment arrow.

Oh hey... I didn't notice that it was Transcriber. All I saw was that it was in the Notes program. Of course, everybody knows that Notes handwriting recognition is about as useful as a hack saw for surgery. But I have a lot of faith in Transcriber--use it for course notetaking.

Sometimes it seems that the more untidy my handwriting, the better Calligrapher understands it.

The new version of Calligrapher should be available pretty soon as well. I've been using the beta for a while and it's just great. I used to rely on Fitaly for input, but I've gotten used to Calligrapher and use it at least 90% of the time. Now if I go back to Fitaly, I get lost looking for the letters.

I can't even remember the last time I resorted to my Pocketop keyboard.
