View Full Version : Holiday Gift Ideas?

It's almost that time of year again... that time when you have to empty your wallet... 8O ;)

And, more than ever, I'm sure electronics are on some of your wish lists, if not on your giving lists as well. And, without a doubt, Pocket PCs make great gifts. In either case, I'm curious as to what electronics you, our dear readers, are drooling over. Have you thought about what you want to get relatives? Have you hinted what you want to relatives? If so, let us know by hitting the Discuss link below. I'll collect some of the answers next week and set up a vote to see what the Pocket PC Thoughts' community's most desirable gift is; and, if time permits, maybe we'll even make a PPCT Gift Catalog.

If you need inspiration, you might want to check out these sites:
CNet has their Holiday Gift-Giving Guide and Holiday Getaway Gear guides;

Our very own Foo Fighter has made up a fantastic Holiday Gift Guide as well. Happy shopping! :D

I think this is a great idea but I would like to see two categories. One for bigger ticket items such as cameras, pocketpc's, etc. and the second for accessories.
I just got a new pda so my list will include only accessories. I really would like a fancy lighted stylus from pocketpctechs and a 256 lexar sd card.

My wife & I are getting her elder son the 400MHz X3 as a combined birthday/Christmas present. It has already arrived, for which I am truly grateful to Dell :-)
I now want to buy a really decent game so that he has got something he can play on the X3 ... and keep him quiet for a while :D
For myself, I'm waiting a little bit longer before asking my company to replace my aged iPAQ 3660 with a shiny new X3i.

No PPC for me this Christmas. I'm keeping my Axim until something I really like comes along.
We're thinking of getting a PPC for our daughter though. Maybe an X3 or a 1930, not quite sure yet.

CNet apparently thinks males and females go through quite different stages --
In their younger years, girls want slick-looking goodies, and boys want entertaining and eye-catching stuff.
When they marry, they try to become responsible adults. Husbands are looking for portability, flexibility, and reliability from their gadgets, while wives are not gadget-hounds.
Divergence occurs when they become parents. Dad is an early-adopter, ahead of the curve. Mom has sadly become a technophobe.

Disconnected, you must be living in the Stone Age. I have two kids and three pocketpc's. My husband has only one. My husband wants tools for Christmas, I want anything pocketpc related!

I believe you misunderstood her (Disconnected's) message. She is being sarcastic about CNet's suggested gifts.

Funny that you should ask. I just left T-Mobile in the Mall. I asked to see the manager. I told her I was looking for a part-time position to demo the new MDAII when it comes to the store. She didn't seem to know what I was talking about. (Interesting that those T-Mobile folks don't keep abreast with what's going on with their own product. I have always thought that they are more interested in the phone aspect than the PDA of the Pocket PC.)
Anyhoo, I was going to work my way to owning a MDAII. I'd accept no pay, just work long enough to purchase one.
I can't wait to get my hands on one and $849 is too steep for me.
I'm going to stand outside of the stores next to the Salvation Army bell ringers with a sign that says, "Will Work For an MDAII."

Kati, I guess you misunderstood my response......I was only giving Disconnected a hard time. I just couldn't leave his or her comment without some sort of comment; it was funny.

I would think software would be a great gift idea. I mean, I would just love some of those awesome Bluetooth GPS solutions, but somehow I doubt any of my family members are going to spend 20 times what they normally would.
Now software, I can just make a list and I'm likely to get something that I actually can use instead of a sweater that went out of style 10 years ago.

In this day and age, the best gift you could give someone is a copy of Norton AntiVirus.

Yeah, T-Mobile USA hasn't released that it will be available.. ever. They just got FCC Approval. T-Mobile Germany has already released it (and then there is i-Mate in Middle East, and of course O2 has it available in the UK, Singapore, etc.). I suspect once T-Mobile sees its success elsewhere in the world (which they are waiting to see how well it does) they will announce its release in the US (this will be a few months from now). A few months after THAT, it will actually be released. Simultaniously with the H6000, the triband iPAQ.
I said screw it, I got an i-Mate (same thing hardware-wise as the XDA II/MDA II) which I'll enjoy for the next 6 months at least. Then at that point decide whether to keep it, or to go with the H6000.

Unfortunately, I need a new (read: expensive) sleeping bag for Christmas this year, so I won't be getting any PPC gear in my stocking. I will, however, be asking for a Handango gift certificate from my brother or my best friend.
When I'm sleeping out in a tent in February or March, you can bet that I'll be really happy I got the new sleeping bag

I seemed to ask for an awful lot of accessories when my mom told me to make my "Santa list." I'm lucky that I'm the youngest, unmarried and without kids--I get more spoiled than my older siblings!!
Off the top of my head I asked for a 512MB SD card and a Targus Wireless IR keyboard...they've both been fully explained, so I'll be eager to see if Mom has trouble finding them. She's not exactly technologically minded, poor lady. We've done our best, but she doesn't understand my penchant for shiny new tech toys. :)
