conduits pocket player also does this, and imo does it better. GS player seems to drop the stream more often.

Can't you do this with WMP for PPC? I think I've streamed asx files before...am I missing something?

I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for" may be very appropriate here!

Pocket MVP does streaming as well. Both GSPlayer and PMVP allow you to adjust the buffer to avoid the skips.

As far as I am concerned, this story is pretty much old news. I think it would be better to compile a website of good streaming links because shoutcast stations are not to my taste.
Some WMP stations are streamable (if you can find an asx file), but Microsoft has dropped the ball when it comes to many of their PPC apps including WMP

I guess that now there is finally a reason to truly have and need the unlimited bandwidth option with Verizon :)

It doesn't stream other popular streaming formats like Shoutcast which many non-profit Internet Stations use.

What kind of files can PocketMVP stream? I would be interesting in trying this.

As far as anyone's concerned.. it's 6+ months old! I saw this when I first got WiFi last spring, and who knows how old it was then. The links to GS player are dead (and they're for v1.80, 1.90 is the latest).

Ah, there we go. Screenshot on 2nd page. March 10, 2003. Story was prolly posted that same day, or within a few days.

Shame on PPCT linking to an old story.

Thanks for the lead Ed!
After two minutes of downloading/setting up, I am now listening to Virgin Radio (in the UK) on my 4150, via WiFi, plugged into my PC speakers (Cambridge Soundworks... great items... but I digress), and am writing down the Artist/Song titles of "their" top Pop/Rock picks that catch my fancy. And all of this without spending 1 penny, and in less than five minutes time.

(song suggestions... Limp Bizkit's version of the Who song - Behind Blue Eyes, and Starsailor - Born Again)

THIS is exactly what a PPC should be able to do... expand horizons!

Can someone in the crowd please give me an Amen?!

I run a station on Live365 (http://www.live365.com/), which is a bit more of a pain to listen to on the PPC, but it *is* possible. Here's how, if anyone's interested:

Using my station (http://www.slothradio.com/) as an example.... ;)

From a desktop PC, go to the Live365 prefs page (http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/personalize.cgi) and set the MP3 Player to "MP3 Player" (as opposed to the default Player365).
Visit the station's page (http://www.live365.com/stations/avtower) and click the play button. Open the stream in your mp3 player (winamp or whatever).
Save the playlist and copy the .pls file to your PPC.
Load the .pls file in GSPlayer and enjoy....

I was doing this via Bluetooth/Activesync last September, before I got my Powerbook over a year ago.
It's cool but kinda old news for folks on this board

Heh I've been doing this forever. But I've been listening to Shoutcast stations instead.

When you click on the "listen" link and winamp pops up; save the playlist on some other directory. Then just run the playlist with GSPlayer.

I use GS Player fine when using wifi, but It skips when i use my sprint cf cdma card. I know its bandwith issues. Can someone tell me the optimal settings for GS player when using less than 80kbs wireless. Thanks

yea dont use the direct download link for gsplayer. go to the japanese homepage where you can get the latest 1.9a version. Nice thing about gsplayer is they constantly update. you can pretty much download a new player version every time you download a new nvidia driver. ;)

For the guy looking for Conduits Pocket Player; try looking at http://www.conduits.com/
They have a pile of software, most of it dynamite. I haven't tried the player though, as I'm very contented with GSPlayer.

Not sure what you mean "bierf." when you say TMobile, are you doing thts over GPRS? There isn't enough bandwidth to effectively stream.bIf you are doing this at a TMobile hotspot, what is the exact problem?

Are you using T-Mobile GPRS or T-Mobile WiFi hotspots?

GPRS t-mobile internet
Then as I said 2 posts ago, there isn't enough bandwidth to effectively stream over GPRS, so your streaming app keeps retrying and buffering.

You are trying to suck a baseball through a straw. Streaming over GRPS just isn't going to work well. GPRS is slower than modems. You need broadband.
