Hi,
I've read a few posts about burning dvd's for the pocket pc. I'm a bit confused is there anyone who can list what is the current software needed and the steps involved. My Pda is the HP 2210 with 256mb SD.
I figured since I have well over 350 dvd's I'd like to take some of my collection on the road.

Many thanks in advance

But note that the encoding part of that guide is out of date.

I'm in the process of encoding my movie using DVDx2.2 following the steps listed in Bigds guide I hope all goes well. If I followed it right I just have to convert the file over to WMP and I'm set I think lol. Once that's done is it a matter of drag and drop to my SD card.

Many thanks for all the Links

How so? I have been using this successfully for a while now.

I use Davideo for Pocket PC.
Pop in a dvd, select rip to hd (can also do it directly from dvd, but i have only a pIII 700 laptop doing the encoding, so kinda slow) when ripped, encode from folder for pocket PC, select memcard size (it's fluctuating a little depending on the movie, so I just set it manualy to 100mb for my 128mb memcard) and it encodes on my pIII700/512MB laptop a 2 hr dvd in about 4 1/2 hrs to windows media format.
Good quality, not to many settings, and plays in wmplayer, so I dont use a pocketTV or the like for it.

(too bad there isnt an english version, but then again, there isnt much settings to play with to get it going either.)

Are the software and its directions in English?

No, DaVideo is entirely in German. Fortunately, it's pretty obvious how to use it after playing around for a bit. You can always open your browser to a translator website ( e.g. http://www.google.com/language_tools ) and more-or-less figure out anything you don't understand.

If you want a "single click" type of solution for Windows Media Player, I haven't seen a better choice.

To start with it says to use DivX 3 because DivX 5 doesn't work with PocketMVP. In reality I know that the latest version of PocketMVP supports up to DivX 5.05 with profiles and effects disabled (I haven't tried 5.1 yet). This means that other parts of the guide are also incorrect, starting with the bit about the video size having to be a multiple of 16. See this post (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=174805&highlight=#174805) of mine for more info. The guide will still work, but the files you create are probably a bit bigger than they need to be.

Thanks Jason for recommending my site. And Tom, Divx5.1 does work with PocketMVP but I would recommend sticking with 5.05. It seems to me anyway that it encodes a bit faster with the 5.05 and there is no quality improvement to the 5.1. that I can tell. And FREAKY, might I suggest converting to divx. I think you would probably like the quality better with divx verses .wmv, not unless you have WM2003. which they improve WMP allot with ver.9 and if you have any questions about my guides feel free to email me from my site or post back here. I will bookmark your post.

Thanks BigD for the guides they have helped me alot. I have now recorded the same movie for three different players WMP,PocketMVP, and PocketTV. I'm still trying to find the best settings for the best picture possible. Each way yielded different results the WMP version was 135mb avi, Pocketmvp 145 mb avi and PocketTV 210 mpeg-1.

I'm trying to find which will yield the best results as I used different software for each player. So far the PocketMVP version is the best. All this because I read a post where someone mentioned they had a crystal clear version of monsters inc. Oh well back to the drawing board.

Many thanks

Your welcome Freaky, you can play around a bit with the encoding bitrate. Where I suggest 224 kbps, bump that up to say 300 or so and see the difference. The reason I put in 224 is that most PocketPC's can handle that and theres so many different models that uses my site that I try to keep it at a happy medium...Good luck :D

Thanks for the reply BigD I tried increasing the bitrate to 300 when I encoded the movie for PocketTV using TMPGEnc in mpeg-1 format. I was not happy with the result. I thought by increasing bitrate and lowering framerate by half would result in a much improved image but the result was disappointing. I haven't tried playing with framerates and bitrates using VirtualDUB and I'm not to sure I can play with framerates. I saw it was possible to change bitrates if I change it to 300 what about the maximum rate do I change that too.

One last question for filters which ones would help in increasing picture quality.

Many thanks
