Hi everyone...

Just tried out the beta version of VeriChat

Being beta of course:

Problems:
 (1) Adding/Removing/Blocking/Unblocking contacts of any IM network will lead to you being kicked off the server, and thus I have to log in again.
 (2) Opening the Contact Properties option is non-functional and results in the above.
 (3) Program does not mask your password...not good for quite onlookers.
 (4) Inability to rename contacts like Trillian, unless the option is available under Contact Properties if it worked.
 (5) Probably are more that I can't think of...

But beta is beta so you can't expect too much.

And of course, if you wanna try it out, email [email protected]

But I don't think VeriChat will ever be quite like Trillian.

Dj Apod,

I alos just tried it out. Does it try to go to the internet automatically when you launch the program (even before you set up the accounts)?

Well at first, I tried to open the program when I wasn't connected to the net thinking it was like Trillian. And then it said that I needed to have an active connection. My steaming factor ticked over to 1.

Then I set up my accounts, no problem...but then I saw that it didn't mask the passwords. Not that that was a problem because I was alone in the room but I just thought it would be better if it was masked. My steaming factor ticked over to 2.

Then I connected to ICQ/MSN. And I was like YAY!

Then I tried to manage my accounts, and then everything went haywire (as I explained when I started this topic), and my steaming factor ticked over to about 10!!! By then, my biological fuse had broken, and I was waiting for all hell inside me to break loose...which it eventually did, because I uninstalled the program in complete frustration.

So did it try to go to the internet automatically? In short, yes... In long, see above. 8)

I am testing this out as well.

The initial connection is for the offline message option. I skipped that.
I did not need to add any contacts since this software picked up my server based contacts for AIM, MSN and Yahoo. I will have to test adding contacts. I was able to chat with my existing contacts and see their properties without the application crashing. That sounds good to me!

I sent the details of my experience and some suggestions to the developers. If you have not, I suggest you do the same.

DJ Apod, As you know, this is a beta. Maybe you need to cool off a bit before trying something like this.
