Hi All,

I have an upgraded h5450 2002 to PkPc2003.
Everything works fine with Outlook 2002, Active Sync 3.7

Then I upgraded to Outlook 2003 (Office 2003)
AtiveSync now cannot synchronise with outlook. It gives me the error:

"Synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists and this desktop computer is running Microsoft Outlook 2000, open Outlook 2000, click Help, and then click Detect and Repair. Otherwise, contact your network administrator"

The Microsoft Knowledge base article (824116) says use Active Sync 3.7
I am already using 3.7. No help here.

So I:
* Uninstall Active Sync 3.7
* Detect and Repair Outlook 2003
* Install Active Sync 3.7.1
* Delete all partnerships
* Rename my Pocket PC just in case
* Try sync again
Suprise - the same error message.
* Try detect and repair again.
* Change the color of my sock (hey I've tried everything else)
Still the same error message

Any ideas of what other steps I should try?

Stephen.

Sounds as thought it may be a problem with the WM2003 upgrade or the Outlook 2003 upgrade.

Is it having probs with all kinds of Outlook items?

Because, believe it or not, I originally had ActiveSync 3.7, and Outlook 2002. Then I formatted my computer one day and installed ActiveSync 3.7.1 and Outlook 2003, and everything syncs fine with my h1940.

If you have another computer lying around and your Outlook 2003 licence allows it, install Outlook 2003 on another computer and try syncing with that. If that works, then perhaps its a problem with your original computer. Otherwise, you can always contact MS - dunno if they will help though ^_^

OK found the solution, originally posted at http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=7290

Here is what I did:
* Use Find > Files or Folders to find all "mapi32.dll"
* Renamed all these .dll to .dll_orig (I also renamed "MSMAPI32.dll)
* Rebooted
* Ran Outlook 2003 & did a detect and repair (this replaces the mapi32.dll's)
* Since there was not a copy of mapi32.dll in "C:\WinNT\System32" I copied one there (from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033")
* Rebooted
* Ran Outlook 2003
* Cradled my Pocket PC, Active Sync 3.7 starts
* Created a new partnership & hey it magically starts working again.

Hopefully this explanation stops some frustration of a future ActiveSync user!
