View Full Version : iPaq 1935 + WiFi, some ruminations

I'm very pleased with this little combo I've ordered from Amazon. I should have it on the 17th or the 18th of this month. Yet my withdrawal is so bad at this point that I can't help but think of all the fun in store for me.

I think that the 1935 is still on sale at Amazon for $185 after the rebate. After tacking on the Sandisk WiFi card, it becomes a meager $285--now that's a cheap WiFi Pocket PC.

My major project, however, is to turn it into a WiFi phone using VoIP. I've done some research and settled on VoicePulse as a service provider. I can get a US phone number (unfortunately nowhere near my hometown's area code), and make absurdly cheap phone-calls anywhere in or out of the country... which is particularly nice considering that I now live in Belgium. Besides that, my parents won't have to call my Belgium number anymore--they can call the US number on my WiFi iPaq phone. Since my college also uses a VoIP system for cheap US phone calls, they can call me when I'm travelling for pennies on the minute.

Only condition is that I have to be standing in a WiFi hotspot to use it. Still, for $20 a month, that's not bad at all. More thoughts later...

Now, the main question on my mind is whether I can hold the iPaq to my ear instead of using a clumsy microphone/headset. I know people don't like the idea of greasing up their screen, but I do have a pack of screen protectors. Where is the speaker on an iPaq 1900? Is it the d-pad?
