Hi everyone...

Just out of curiousity...what is your total hard disk space in your household (this includes all desktop HDDs and laptop HDDd combined...not memory cards and CD/DVD media).

Well, counting external USB hard drives, we have about 215 GB...

Not too bad, although while we have a lot of computers, they're all notebooks. If we had desktops, that number would probably be a lot higher... :D

Yeah...I've got about 360GB in total.

However, I have a friend who's got just over 1.5TB!!! :?

I'd like to have a few terabytes of storage for my notebook, but only if I can also have a terabyte of RAM to go with it. :D

I have 160Gb on my main PC. Then my laptops have 10Gb and 20Gb, then my parents PC's have 30Gb and 40GB. Then my US Server has about 70Gb. Not forgetting my 20Gb Firewire external drive. So in all about 250Gb.

Only got 50Gb left on main PC so looking for either another internal HDD or a larger external Firewire drive, maybe a 250Gb one.

HDDs? We don't need no stinkin' HDDs!

At least that would be the case if all computers were built like our beloved Pocket PCs. But unfortunately, we have ~180GB HDD storage in all, and a measly 1GB in flash storage.

Well, I had to add in the hard drives from my Xbox and my Replay TV to do it, but I managed to top out just over 300 gigs. Without them (20gig and Xbox 8gig) I am at 284gig.

Not a huge amount of space, but more than enough when you consider I am not into PC Gaming. At least for now. I just started getting into DV and that eats the memory quick.

Only got one PC down here in Jakarta. 36G WD raptor as system drive, 2x160G Seagates for data. Already 80% full with games, divxs, mp3s, oggs, and raw images from my camera.

To think that 10 years ago I am already pleased with my IBM PS2 model 30 with 20 megs of harddrive. 8O

I have two households networked together, one household is about 600gigs and the other is about 400 but by the end of the year each household will be 1TB with raid 5.

That is a lot....though it is never enough!

Under my desk I have a 120GB drive in my pc + 2 200GB External Firewire Drives plugged in. Laptop has two HD's a 20GB + a 10GB. Testing Server has 2 10GB drives.

SO I guess it is a lot of space....but it will run out very quickly!

I have 480 GB of storage in my new PC (160 GB SATA x 2, 160 GB external Firewire). Of course, that was by accident - I *thought* (and was told) that the motherboard I bought supported RAID 0, but it doesn't, so I ended up with twice as much storage as I thought...oh well.

Ah, but where are you going to back up those 480GB to? ;)

maximus

Yup. RAID 0 without backup is ... scary. Even for a home PC. I once lost almost 40 gigs of data (mp3s, divxs, photos) because one of the HDD in the RAID array went 'click click whirrr ... whirrr ... click click' and after that incident, I swore my allegiance to the daily backup regime.

Thankfully, I don't have 480 GB worth of data to back up - more like 100 GB, so that's managable.
