I've started building my computer (finally), and would like some imput on what color to light it. It's black aluminum with a clear covering on the front.

I'm thinking one 12" tube and two colored fans.

What do you think?

Blue LEDs look cool with plexiglass. Just check this picture (http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/enote/images/enote0036L.jpg) out.

I used some colored fans in the past, found them to be very noisy...

YMMV...

Blue is cool, but it seems over-used lately. I might go for classic red.

I think you might want to make the colour changable, to suit your mood at the time. It might not have to handle a 'daily' frequency, but it might be nice to be able to change it for major holidays/seasons. You know, Red/Green for Christmas; Orange for Hallowe'en, Green for Spring/St. Patrick's Day, etc.

Another question: The plate on the back of the case that matches up with the motherboard plugs is the wrong style. Nothing came with the mobo. Do computer stores have these?

One should have come with your motherboard to be the exact fit, mine came with one that fit exactly...

Anyways, go with yellow! Thats the best colour. (unique too)

That's what I thought. Not the case this time - I'll go back to the store and try to get one.

Yeah, funny stuff. What type of motherboard is it?

Depends on what you have in there that's fluorescent.

Hmm - do black lights come in different strengths? Say, that would show the airborne dust etc?

Actually, now I'm puzzled - White is flourescent~? What makes a colour flourescent??? Off to do research...

What makes a colour flourescent???

Any bright color that's ugly on a webpage qualifies as flourescent. Microsoft loves these horrid color schemes, so feel free to open up a MS app to find them all. :D

Purple cold cathodes look sweet, especially with a black case...

For black/light flourescent check out http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20031003/index.html

Here's a short explanation of fluorescence and black lights:

Thanks for the help, everyone! Looks like I'll follow popular consent and start with blue.

I like the idea of having a "theme" for my computer each season/holiday, and might add other colors once my bank account recovers.

Thanks again! I'll post pictures once it's done.

Well, its up to you, but I am not a believer of blue, I dont like it that much. You went with the flow! What happened to go your own, unique way? I guess its only computer lights and doesnt really matter, but, 8)

Feel free to "go against the flow" and send me some other colors!

I'll try to get other colors later one.

I think part of the reason blue is so popular is because it isn't as "bright" as some of the other colors. Yellow might cause excessive illumination. ;)

That, and blue LEDs are popular because they're "new".

If you choose blue, take a look at this new FX5700 videocard from pixelview, (http://www.prolink.com.tw/mailnews/1024.htm) it produces a matching color :D

The Fx5700 is meant to be on the mainstream market .. so it would not go beyond $200 (I think). As for the review unit ... hmm ... hmm ... that is a very good idea. I reviewed a dual opteron server for this hardware review site, and I still have the dual opteron server in singapore. I have to return it sometimes, but .. in the meantime, we are using it as an internet server
