View Full Version : Which SMTP Server do you use to send email?

I use RoadRunner for an ISP. While I am at work I want to retrieve/send email from my RoadRunner account using my PDA via the ActiveSync passthrough connection. I have no problem retrieving my POP mail. However, RoadRunner does not allow you to use their SMTP server to send email unless you are logged into their network.

I would prefer to not use something like mail2web.com, e-mailanywhere.com or even my Yahoo email to retrieve/send this email. To make matters worse, RoadRunner's webmail will not work through our corporate fire wall (apparently a common problem according to their tech support). The final straw is that our IT will not allow me to set up my Groupwise client to retrieve my personal POP email (security risks, virus concerns.)

Which SMTP server can I use? Are there services that will provide SMTP access for free or that are fee based? Is there some way I can figure out how to piggyback on our corporate SMTP (keeping in mind that we use GroupWise...not Outlook/Exchange)?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hmmm...finally got time to search around...the more I read the more I think I am probably not going to have a solution for this issue. At least not a free one. :(

Still I wonder...any novel solutions out there?

 I run my own server for this reason.
Enable authenticated SMTP and away I go!

Maybe see if you can't find a small mail server you can secure and use...

Well, I own my own domain with an SMTP server that I can use. Plus at work we let any user behind the firewall relay with our SMTP server, so long as they do less than 10 e-mails per minute.

But if I had your problem I might think about http://www.smtp.com/

You can go out and get a Web hosting package for about $5-$7 a month, and it will come with an SMTP server + a lot of other benefits. :way to go:
