Yeah, I'm the one that registered that domain. I love to launch a laptop site just like PPCT, but it won't be for a while yet - Digital Media Thoughts is up next.
Honestly, I'm not aware of any laptop site like we have here with Pocket PCs - if you find one, let me know. :-)

Digital Media Thoughts is up next.
That's what I'm waiting for :)
I'd be interested in Laptop thoughts though too.....problem is...it's a hard one to stick to just hardware with and such a big market/so many products...and.....there are so many little tic's with Windows and different hardware (though since 2K/XP it's sooOOoo much better) it would be hard to manage it reasonably.
We just got a laptop for the Mrs....It's a real debate on coolest/lightest/fastest/most reliable/best value model out there...the prices are just crazy all over the place. We ended up with a sedate HP 4500 (Athlon model)series for about grand (after rebates)....not the best...but the best bang for the buck I found.

They both happened to be Microsoft MVPs (http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/) before they joined.
Jason has "hired" non-MVPs in the past, but only after a fair amount of history. I should know. :razzing:

8O 8O 8O You mean you were counting!?
On a more serious note, I'd be very glad to see a LaptopThoughts.com site. I've been debating between about 4 classes of laptop for the last few years, and insightful discussion would be great. :)

Cool. have you ever thought maybe they will make a pda that is actually part of your laptop. Whenever you want to use it you slide it out from the side, and when you are done you slide it back in. It would automatically sync and charge
Would make it a lot easier for travelling as well. They would have to keep it slim such as in the 1945 series.

They had something similar on some of the little older IBM laptops, which I know you hate! It was a docking type station on the side, don't ask me about it, it was a while ago

MM, I dont even remember it. you are right i dont like the pda I had bought from ibm but not ibm itself. They just stuck their label on the other os product.

Here's a good question: why?
A PDA is usually a device that's supposed to be easy-to-access, e.g., in a pocket, purse, or on your belt. If you embed it in your laptop, you lose that advantage. You'd have to go through the hassle of opening your bag, removing your laptop, and ejecting the PDA. If you're going to go through all that as it is, why not just fire up the laptop?
And... if it's only going to be an occasionally-used feature, is it worth the extra bulk it adds to the laptop?

Actually it would work. A all in one carry for instance. Charge and sync. For some people the strangest things are convenient. I said to charge it and sync it, not to leave it in there all day. Like the modular bay in a Fujitsu laptop, it could be used to 'cradle' the pda for charging syncing.

Ah, but it's not in the interest of manufacturers to cater to small niches, especially when compact travel chargers and IR ports do the job just as well. IBM and HP had some interesting bay ideas in the past; in fact, I believe a Thinkpad did have a PalmOS cradle bay, but they were all dropped due to lack of interest. And who's going to design 15 different bay modules for every type of connector?

That I believe, I was just saying I think it is an idea. Do I think they will actually do it? Nah:)
Neither do I believe they would cater to that niche, but to others maybe.

Here's a similar idea (http://www.jakeehrlich.com/Review/BulletTrain/Laptopwith%20phantom2.jpg) someone came up with. Personally, I think it looks ugly and pointless, but it's bound to appeal to some people...

Ha ha ha, thats our own Jake the Pocket PC Thoughts Trolls Idea! Useless and ugly, not to mention the PalmOne OS!

The only websites I know off that might get you going on some things are websites like www.tucows.com and www.downloads.com and zdnet of course for reviews
There isnt much specific stuff for laptops, since they are similair as desktop systems.
You just have to find a general use for your laptop (maybe if it's an older laptop you could look into older games and apps on google for example)
There are sites for modding laptops, upgrading laptops, linux on laptops etc etc.

I think there is some mobility issues that people might want to talk to other users about. Accessories, adaptations, etc.
It is taking a lot for granted that solving desk top problems is solving laptop user problems.

Just like here!

Exactly. It's rather difficult to inadvertently drop a desktop into a toilet, for one thing. ;)
Anyways, if Jason has any hopes or dreams for a site of this concept, I hope they go through. Mobile computing on any level just rocks! :rock on dude!:

Kati had mentioned she was trying to get her husband on a laptop site bandwagon, but they were in the middle of moving. I dont know how serious they are about it. I think it would really be useful to have. I only buy laptops so I would easily be registered there

What IBM did was re-brand the Palm V, III and some older models and sell them as "IBM Workpads", then, they designed a laptop bay device (yes the ones you can swap like floppy, CD-XXX, 2nd Hard Drive, etc) like a CD-ROM but it was a Cradle, you could plug-in your Workpad (or Palm) and sync, then you could fold it and slide it into the laptop body itself, where the removable device would be.
Kinda odd, but useful for the frequent traveler, one less device to lug around

Well, notice he put me last on the totem pole. :razzing: But Kati is correct. To say I'm swamped doesn't begin to describe it. Being a PPCT editor is a tremendous and rewarding privilege, but it's a huge time drain. And then there's school...

Just Kidding.
