Haven't heard anything about it, but, that is an interesting idea though. Doubt car industry would do it.

There is a Blaupunk accesory wich can be conected to the main unit, that accept CF microdrives. It comes with a 1gb CF MD and cost about U$400, is only usable with blaupunk radios.

There is also a Sony car stereo that accept memory sticks. It also has an 10 gb internal hard drive, and a color screen.

And the best of all, the pioneer CD/MP3/Memory Stick Player - also with 10 GB Hard Drive. It has DSP.

Sadly, not SD support yet. And most sadly, these radios are worth about U$2000. :silly:

 The best way to use a SD or CF in a car is to go strait throught your PDA. :!: I have a HP 2215 with a program called pocket music that "I Heard" you can download for free with Kazza. It is very user friendly and can accapt winamp skins. Also Winamp has the new PPC program that looks very nice as well. Anyways, the setup: Pioneer 6500 head unit, Pioneer CDR B10 convertor, to the IPaq or a RioVolt Portable MP3 Cd player. You can use any Pioneer head with CD changer controls. The convertor was $35 from ebay after shipping. It changes the P-Bus into RCA channels. From here you can plug anything you want into it. A wire from RadioShack to change RCA into a headphone jack and wa-lah. I also have a 4.5 volt plug for power to the RioVolt which actually works to charge the Ipaq as well. THe sound quality is great is sounds no different than a CD with the exception of a slight decrease in vol. witch is easily fixed with the Slant control on the head unit. All of the wires are hidden behind the dash and come up towards the end of the center counsil where the Ipaq rests. I simply put any new downloads on the cards in the morning, slide them in, and turn it up.

We really don't encourage even borderline nudge-nudge piracy posts. Don't do it again.

However, the basic version of PocketMusic is freeware.

No no no, get a FM Transmitter! Just put one end of it into a headphone jack, tune your radio to some frequency, and voila, instant hi-fi access to anything on your pda. Of course it's nicer with a 20 GB iPod on a long car trip...

Why not? (It's really not the car industry anyhow... it's aftermarket stuff... Sony, Panesonic, etc.) I know a lot of people have issues with Memory Sticks, but Sony does a nice job of incorporating MS into some of their higher end car stereos. (And their TVs too, BTW... like them or not, Sony does a nice job of integrating their MS into devices).

I guess I don't understand why the aftermarket stereo companies haven't jumped on this... the technology is already there... effectively you're taking the internals of an mp3 player, like a RCA Lyra, and stuffing it in a deck.

I know that I can get an FM transmitter, or a tape adapter, or use my PPC to play through the car stereo... but anyone who has done this knows it's a pain in the ass.. volume control is lame, wires and a handful of gadgets.

I't be great just to pop in a CF card with some mp3s and listen to it.\

 We have become so used to small production runs and quick turnaround on model numbers that the first time I read this I didn't even register it as a typo (geez, I hope it was a typo)........... been discontinued for a minute
