<a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp?ref=apwzwtzws</a><br /><br />"Laridian announced today the release of the Bible Knowledge Commentary and the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge for use with PocketBibleR, its software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs. These two titles add to the growing list of Bible study resources available for PocketBible and take advantage of the increasingly larger memories and storage cards available with today's Pocket PC devices by offering "full-size" reference power on a mobile device."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031028-laridianb.gif" /><br /><b>The Bible Knowledge Commentary</b><br /><br /><a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKBKC001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">The Bible Knowledge Commentary</a> is a two volume commentary compressed into a 7.2MB book for <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/catpocketbible.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">Pocket Bible</a>. It covers both the New Testament (usually verse by verse) and Old Testament (usually passage by passage) and works with any Bible translation you have installed. It was designed to work best with the <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKNIV001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">New International Version</a>. If you are using it with another version, just be aware that commentary on the original text and how it was translated may not always match up with the translation you are using. It is $39.99.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKTSK001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">The Treasury Of Scripture Knowledge</a> is one massive cross-reference tool containing over 500,000 links that shows you relationships between verses. Considering there are 31,173 verses in the Bible, that works out to an average of 16 cross references per verse. 8O It was originally designed to work with the <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKKJV001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">King James version</a> but will work with any installed Bible translation. It requires approximately 6.8MB of storage space and costs $9.99. There is a screenshot in the forum. <i>(All links are affiliate links)</i><br /><br />Both books work just fine on storage cards and they also require an update to the latest version of Pocket Bible. If you purchase one of these, when you go to download you should also see a new link to download an updated Pocket Bible version.<br /><br /><!><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031028-laridiant.gif" /><br /><b>The Treasury Of Scripture Knowledge</b>

Is the commentary worth my time though? I like the commentary is the Zondervan study bibles. If I could get that I'd be very happy. I wonder how this compares.

Nuts! I wish they'd get beyond these limitations soon. Often a table/diagram/map can facilitate understanding a lot more than mere text can. I especially get lost in the Old Testament with all the travelling around and all of the begatting.

Laridian has a dozen or so versions, many free, for the Pocket PC.

It'd be nice if they got the original Hebrew &amp; Greek versions on PPC too. It's sad to have to carry around a translation when you could read the original.

It has always fasinated me as to how popular the bible & the ppc community is.

I am religious but have never considered having it on my PPC :|

It's because they want something more portable after carying those Bibles around :D (at least in my case)

"It's because they want something more portable after carying those Bibles around."

AMEN!

The first time I got up to the pulpit with my e310, the congregation errupted into whispers! It was hillarious to watch the parishoners come up one by one to see what exactly I was using and doing with my PDA.

I actually drop most of my Bible text into my notes so that I don't have to switch back and forth between applications. For that prep work, I use e-Sword almost exclusively. Nice free package. Laridian is good for answering on the spot questions though. Can't remember the reference for that hard hitting verse? Just do a search. Saved me many a time.

We actually have the capability of displaying pictures, maps, and diagrams but more often than not, the rights for these are not included when we license the book. The publishers license this material from elsewhere and don't have the right to sublicense it.

When we've pursued it ourselves we've found it to be expensive. Plus it adds a lot of size to the books. Both cost and size are numbers we try to keep small for your benefit.

What's really interesting is that in most Bible reference books you can leave out all the graphical elements and you don't have to change anything in the text because the text is written as if there are no pictures. The pretty stuff is added by the marketing department, not the editorial department. :-)

Just a quick heads up. For anyone that purchased the Bible Knowledge Commentary you might see if your download library at Laridian contains an updated version. Mine wasn't synchronizing with Bible verses and just as I was about to send a support request for it, I saw a newer release (Wednesday/Thursday?) of Bible Knowledge Commentary that seems to sync just fine. :)

The Zondervan NIV Study Bible is "lite" in comparison. The Bible Knowledge Commentary in print is a two-volume set, about the size of three NIV Study Bibles -- and it doesn't contain the Bible text.

The BKC comes from Dallas Theological Seminary. It should have a similar theological perspective as the NIV Study Bible.

For more information, go to our order form and click on the title of the book.
