The rubber sidepieces on the iPAQ 2210 I bought in July at first seemed a PLUS feature. They felt good, made for a secure grip, and looked smart IMO. But those feelings were short-lived, as indeed were the sidepieces.
They quickly deteriorated and now look ugly, don't fit snugly, and fall off repeatedly. From threads in the newsgroups and various PPC forums like Brighthand and Pocket PC Thoughts, this seems a widespread problem. (Raises question about quality control as well as basic design, but that's another matter.)
No doubt this rapid failure was largely due to constant removal and insertion into the very tight pouch case supplied. So now I have a 'proper' case on order. But meanwhile I arranged with HP (UK number 0870 842 2339) to send me a pair of replacements. That was Friday, and I was assured they would be sent out immediately. Today, Tuesday, after endless waiting and transfers from one department to another, I was finally told that my request was 'being processed', but that there were shortages.
Come on, HP, get your act together. Surely you can manage to replace a few pence/cents worth of plastic on equipment costing around 500 USD?
