The reviewer seems to like the device - I would recommend reading the full review but heres a translation of their conclusion.

"While renewing its range of PocketPC, Toshiba did not only bring the high resolution to the users of PDA. The Japanese manufacturer also rectified the defects of his preceding machines by listening to the complaints of the users:

improved exits its and much more powerful, a wide and more luminous posting, a more sensitive microphone, more pleasant buttons, as many alleviating corrections which polish the range and direct it towards the perfection.

Although there remain some small things to be corrected like the poor quality of the stylet or the mirror effect of the screen, although the demanding user would have liked to lay out out of standard of WiFi AND BlueTooth on a top-of-the-range machine, the e800 remains incontestably a machine of exception which deserves obtaining the one of very rare Awards PocketPCParadise.com for the most succeeded machine of the market.

Marketed with less than 700?TTC, PocketPC Toshiba e800, available in Wifi or BlueTooth, is first PocketPC for a long time to propose real advanced functional calculuses and technological: -

1st PocketPC European to propose a screen 4 inches, -
1st PocketPC to embark 160 Mo of memory out of standard, -
1st PocketPC to be had a matrix of more than 300 000 pixels, -
1st PocketPC to allow posting in VGA (480 X 640), -
1st PocketPC to offer a management of the so fast memory, -
1st PocketPC equipped with such a luminous screen.

That to say moreover if not that the access for the first time to resolution VGA on a machine of pocket is an asset of size. The most significant evolution undoubtedly since the appearance of PocketPC on the market. The e800 is different definitively from competition and is the first PDA of the market to date has to have gained its galons genuine PC of pocket.

I appreciated: -

the large screen 4 inches, luminous and soft, -
the transréflective flagstone of more than 300 000 pixels, -
chart ATI Imageon authorizing the use in high resolution (VGA), -
160 Mo of memory out of standard, -
new design,
sparing processor PXA263 400 MHz, -
the presence of two ports out of standard (standard CF II and SDCard SD I/O), -
Wireless technology integrated (Wifi or BT),
the system of ejection of the memory boards, performances of posting and management memory,
the removable battery and the optional battery high capacity,
the serrated roller of navigation and the new button Dictaphone,
splendid base USB,
audio performances re-examined with the rise,
the software offer integrated in ROM.

I regretted: -

the stylet a little "fake",
reflections of the screen,
delicate seizure with the stylet in VGA,
the choice imposed Wifi OR BlueTooth."

Well I'm still waiting for a professional review of the e800 that will actually test how far the VGA will go. The biggest question is how many applications are .NET 4 compliant right now, or have plans to upgrade to compliance. Maybe once reviewers have got over gushing about the screen they'll do some write-ups on how far it can be put to use.

MAN the high-res screen is nice. Those screenshots are really great...

I also love web translation tools... giving me quotes like "Do not forget to ask your explorer Internet to post each stereotype in the real face."

Nice device indeed. I just hope the ATI imageon chip did not ruin the whole package.

Nice device indeed. I just hope the ATI imageon chip did not ruin the whole package.

I think the 2 MB of dedicated video memory will handle the VGA no problem.

With the e740, the ATI chip actually slowed performance down in some ways because software wasn't configured for it. Hopefully it's not the same on the e800.

Some of the good video software (PocketTV) was optimized for the ATI and worked really well on it. I still think the 2 MB of video memory will make a ton of difference for any graphic application.

In 12 months, when magneto is out, and toshiba decided that there will be no upgrade for e800 ... will we see the same wave of toshiba-hatred all over again ?

Deja vu.

I hope not.... I think it's really sad that Toshiba's poor support overshadows their excellent hardware. (although some would disagree about the excellent hardware part...)
