I was looking around a while back and came across this website:
http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/Articles/SCSI/
where people have successfully connected an SCSI hard drive to their PPC. Now, what I am wondering is...they say that they can use an SCSI cd-rom with CDFS volumes on it (or its untested or something). Now, if this could be done, would I be able to do the same thing using say, an external usb cd-rom with my ppc using the usb-host cable? Would I be able to use the mentioned Adaptec driver for this? Well, I tried this, and when I hook up my CD-Rom to my ppc, the drive starts to spin, and then that is all. Before I installed the driver, it only asked for the name of the driver and that was it. I think maybe, just maybe, if we had some sort of program for the CD-rom, just some sort of thing where we would be able to open the cd to view the files...or maybe a program for listening to the *.cda files on a commercial audio cd...

Would anyone else like to help me work on this project??

Super.

Working on this is way over my head. I just openned the post to see if there was an avatar associated with the name

Theoretically it is possible, however unlikely.

Although you could hook it up, a specialized driver would be needed, and it may be difficult to ready CD-ROMs.

Personally, I would rather have a pocket MD reader.

I dont know much about CD ROM, but I've done hooking up a USB Harddrive AND a USB Flashdrive to the USB Expansion port... you need to do a google search to find the appropriate drivers for those two... though I doubt CD Rom could be recognized and explored with the Pocket PC buildin File Explorer. Maybe try some commercial version of file explorer for pocket pc?

I agree with vasant56. You need a driver. Adaptec includes the driver with the downloaded 1460 PPC software, unfortunately. you have to use it in a PCMCIA compliant slot. If you use a CF-to-PCMCIA adapter (needed on the Toshiba, but not iPAQ), you choke down some of the address/data lines, and the card refuses to work. I learned this from experience, fortunately the 1460 I got was from the MicroCenter return bin, so it wasn't a $100 mistake.

All other efforts to use USB have resulted in the same scenario you see. Maybe we can convince DeJe to write it into his USB mass storage driver  .
