I prefer external so I can move between systems. I have USB 2.0 on both my desktop and laptop. What is the difference between + or - RW? I saw this HP http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000C0TUT/qid=1066744238/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_etk-electronics/002-5216031-8029664?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282 which I thought was cool because I do want to covert old home movies to DVD.

Any thoughts?

Check out this link for answers to the DVD + - connundrum. I have an external DVD+RW burner from HP and it works great. I can take the DVD's straight to my Pioneer DVD player and they play without problems.

How about this Sony DVD burner... http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=Go&description=N82E16827131212

It does all the formats (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, CD-R, and CD-RW), so you don't have to worry about it. It will also connect via USB 2.0 or FireWire. I have the internal version, and I love it.

I highly recommend the Freecom FX-50. It's Firewire and USB 2.
