I am having this problem with my Axim X5 loaded with WM 2003 and syncing with AS 3.7.1. Out of the blue, the connection will terminate. Nothing seems to be happening to cause this.
Suppose it could be a USB problem, but did not have it before upgrading to WM 2003.
If anyone has any ideas on how to cure this, I would appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

I don't suppose it is any comfort, but you're not alone. Same equipment; same symptoms. Likewise I haven't been able to identify any event that it could be linked to.

I am also experiencing the same with my Axim. I noticed a significant increase in disconnects when I upgrade to WM2003. I was hoping the new Active Sync would help, no such luck.

Could you have a firewall that is causing the cut-off?

I'm not running any kind of firewall here. Interestingly, unlike xbalance, I do seem to have noticed a drop in frequency since upgrading to AS 3.7.1.

I experienced the same thing on my Dell but since upgrading to 3.7.1 two days ago I have not had it happen again. Time will tell if its truly fixed

mmm, you can go throught the whole set up again, and contact dell to see if others are reporting the same issues, and also check about future upgrades.

Windows XP has known issue on the USB driver. You need to update with Service Pack 1

Thanks for the replys. Guess I will just live with it. Easier than reinstalling everything.

I am on Windows 2000 and have a Dell Axim and this happens to me also.
But it seems to only happen when my system is low on resources. As if AS turns itsself off when the PC can't find enough memory.
That's about the only thing that is constant when it happens to me. Hope that helps.

I think you are right. I had my Dell in the cradle with only ActiveSync running and no disconnects. I played one game and opened Excel and a little later on I had a disconnect. I closed everything and so far, no disconnects.
Bad thing, it seems to have a very low threshold to me having anything open :(

:devilboy: This really sucks. I have nothing open on my Axim X5 and I still lose my active stink connection. I would call Dell, but based on what I have read on PPCT I might get more satsifaction by explaining the issue to my 4 year old son.
My opinion. WM2003 and the Dell Axim X5 have an issue with Active Stink 3.7.0 and 3.7.1 that results in random disconnects.

Just to clarify, I believe this happens when the PC is low on memory or resources, not the Pocket PC. Notice what is running on your PC when AS disconnects.
Because with me, I haveh the Pocket PC in the cradle and nothing running on it (except AS) but I may have too much Virtual Memory in use (by running both Outlook and Photoshop, for example) and AS just boots itself offline when memory gets low.
Weird but that is the only reason I could nail down for the behavior that we are all experiencing.
Solution? Close some programs, free up some RAM, reboot, etc.
For now, we just have to live with it I suppose.
