There's a $50 instant rebate, a $50 mail-in Viewsonic rebate, and if you buy Office 2003 at the same time, you'll get a third $50 CompUSA mail-in rebate. The link brings you to a circular; hover on the V35 to get the full details.

Not a bad deal for a thin, light Pocket PC 2002 device! Oh, and you can now get a upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003, and according to PPCT readers, Viewsonic reps have indicated that the WM2003 upgrade includes SDIO drivers.

I don't see this as a huge deal anyway unless you were already planning on buying MS Office. If not it will cost $149. To upgrade to MW2003 it is another $30.

Might as well go with the HP 1935 for $199 or the Dell X3 for $239 (or whatever it will be). Both are newer with a much better processor.

The ViewSonic has a few things going for it.
- 300MHz Xscale processor (yes, its the PXA250)
- great (non-yellow or blue tint) screen
- scroll wheel for ebooks
- loud speaker
- very good battery life
- great customer support (look at the fact that they offered an upgrade for it, where is the upgrade for the HP 1910)
- SDIO (after upgrade, where is the SDIO for the iPaq 1910)

For my part I went in to CompUSA to buy a Palm Tungsten|E (got a bonus at work and decided to buy a toy).
When I saw that I could either have a Tungsten|E or a ViewSonic v35 for about the same money, I went with the ViewSonic.
I could have gone with a iPaq 1935 (if anyone sold them retail), but as I had an iPaq 1910 and a 1945 I did not want to put up with the quality issues that the 1935 was sure to have (i.e. the yellow screen and short battery life. And yes the yellow screen does matter, its horrible when you read a lot of ebooks and have to stare at it. And it negates ClearType font smoothing).
Sorry, guess I am a little bitter after having the yellow screen and the 'magical disappearing bluetooth' on my 1945. :bad-words:
Also I do not like to wait (10 days for the X5 Advance or November 11 for the X3 Basic) :) so the Dell was right out.

I think the main thing is that I went to buy a Palm, but left with a(nother) PocketPC.

Just my .02 YMMV

if you have to buy microsoft office then it isnt a good deal. at least to me because it is only when you buy something else. it is like saying, if you buythis dvd player youget a free dvd!!!!!!!! oh wow, thank you, not!!!!!!!
just settle for paying 50 more bucks forthe thing.
