View Full Version : Audio Lag in Video File

When I watch a video file, the audio is either behind or ahead (I don't remember) After a while, it's not a half a second, it's 5, 6, 7 seconds and it's annoying. I saw a post on here about it, but they were talking about programs and settings I had no clue about. I am a newb :) So if someone can lay it out to be real plainly how to conver video on the comp to PPC without audio problems please help (I'm using TMPGEnc right now, works well, except for major audio problems)
Thanks

what pocket pc are you using? what os? ppc 2002 is the least effective, ppc 2003 w/ pxa250 is the next best (but has a bigger audio lag), and ppc 2003 w/ pxa255 or samsung seems to be the best (w/ samsung as a bit better).
I haven't used my PPC for video for ages. When I did, I used the directions posted over at www.pocketmatrix.com
All the software needed is freeware and it's a bit of messing about. The results are great however, video and audio in perfect sync for a two hour movie. I use PocketMVP for playback on my Axim.

I have a ipaq 1935. using pocketmvp. when i watch the files on the computer they are fine, it's when they are on the PPC they are delayed.

It sounds like PocketMVP has a problem with the files you are encoding. Since you're already using PocketMVP, why don't you switch to DivX .avi files? You should save some space, and probably gain some quality. I've never had the sort of problem you describe with an .avi file.
This guide (http://www.pocketmatrix.com/guides/dvd2divx/#converting) works well. Just use DivX 5.05 instead of DivX 4, and turn up the bitrates a bit if you are using a faster PocketPC (I use 40 kBit/s, 22,000 Hz, Stereo for my audio, and 200-250 kb/sec for video). You can also ignore the bit about DivX reqiring multiples of 16 for video dimensions, because DivX 5.05 reqires that the height be a multiple of 2, and the width a multiple of 4.

I used to have PPC2002 on my PXA250 iPaq 3955 and the video has no problem playing any type of video.
Now that I upgraded my 3955 to WM2003, there is still no difference. At the moment, I'm watching Matrix Reloaded on my iPaq at 320x240 at 15fps, 160kbps audio and average bit-rate at 225, total bitrate is 372kbps.
If you can watch it in the computer and is ok, then the problem lies in the decoder. I used Pocket TV, and I always had problem with PocketMVP. I had better luck with PocketDivx and Windows Media Player 9 on the pocket pc.
Good luck

I had the same problems until I saw http://forum.pocketmovies.net/viewtopic.php?p=3415#3415 It was posted on another thread.
You need to cut down the video to fit the screen size to achieve best results. This link explains how to do it (and it uses TMPGEnc).
