Looks a lot like the old Launcher program for Palm software. I always thought that was great for the Palm users (of which I am formerly one) because their icons structure wasn't very friendly.

I used Launcher all the time and wouldn't enjoy a Palm without it. This program looks like that same concept..... organized by tabs for easy viewing/launching.

I'll post back after I give it a try.....

This is a very nice Today plug-in.

I was thinking of doing the same thing (take the tdLaunch source and run with it), but was going to make a heirarchical icon tree rather than the tabs. Each icon could be a link to another sub-menu. An automatic UP/HOME icon would be added to any child sub-menus...

But, as this does 99% of what I wanted I think I'll stick with this version for now.

Anybody know if this works with Pocket Facelift? I've had a lot of trouble with programs that want to take over the Pocket Facelift Taskbar.

Great Today Plugin.

I think I just found a replacement for Launcher

Can you set the icons to be smaller in preferences? I don't like things taking up a lot of real estate on the today page, but I really like the tabs.

Way down in the release notes at version 1.03 he has Make the icons size adjustable so I presume that is part of the settings somewhere.

Yes, they are scalable in a per-pixel setting. I halved them in each dimension from 32x32 to 16x16 and it now looks like the other launchers I have had. I like it and it will likely become a permanent part of my Today screen.

personally, i really do not see the need for several rows of program icons on the today screen. i have my most used programs in one row in Pocket Plus with programs i use less frequently on the start menu or in Gigatask used in iTask mode. the rare program i use that is not in one of these areas ends up in the mru area at the top of the start menu so as to keep my today screen clutter to a minimum. i currently have ~30 icons in these areas with only ~six on the today screen. that's my opinion, however, ymmv. i used to have my today screen loaded with icons but things got too cluttered and confusing.

I still think Program Bar is the best app launcher for the PPC. I have exactly what I want on my Today screen without taking up too much space.

Even if there was a third line of icons it would be neater than one line of cLaunch.

I think it would be nice if we can collapse the icons just by tapping any tab, so only tabs are visible, another tap make the icons appear!
What do you think! :D

I was looking forward to using this but I just don't like the tabs, just the text to me would look better.

Until that's addressed I'll just stick to RhinoLaunch

If you go to the original developers website, you will notice he too has updated the program. If my memory serves me right, you used to have to put all the shortcuts in a defined folder by using an explorer program or from activesync. He has now made it much more customizable and I am now using it again, he has done a nice job. Also, it is available for arm, sh3 and mips processors.

one gripe...

if you want ebooks or songs on this on claunh, you cant see the title of the file

can you modify the settings to give an option of SHOW TEXT WITH ICON? it would be better if each tab was customizable so on one tab you have icons only and another you have text and small icons

Very nice. I like it.

But there is a bug: deleted items reappear. If I move (cut/paste) an item to a different tab, it appears to have been moved. But it reappears. Same thing if I use DELETE. So make sure you place your shortcuts where you want them!

By the way, my device is an iPaq 5555.

I have some icons (e.g. Pocket Informant, Resco Explorer, PocketMusic, etc.) that show a pink border/background around. Please help! 8O

I think there's something about that on the main site... Did you select an icon size other than 16 or 32?

Icon Size 17

The pink color is usually the one that is used as a marker for transparencies. That is, if the icon does not have it's own mask. It seems that the application probably uses the mask instead of the bitmap transparency color.

The pink only happens on certain apps and on certain devices.

It also only happens at certain icon sizes..

You can be rid of it by setting your icon size to 32 or 16. 16 is the default size that every today launcher uses (that tdLaunch originally used), so that's a natural size anyways. :)

Version 12 is up at developer's site, not yet at freewareppc.com.

This gent thought of everything.

Works great on my 3845 (if anyone is still hammering away on a similar antique).

Works great on my e805 in VGA mode. I ended up unchecking nearly all the options so it looks just like the old tdlaunch onscreen. I hate the boxes and the tabs, but it's nice to have them in case I ever want them again.

Version 12.01 has been posted to the developer's site. For those who haven't seen this applet yet, it's very well done, and is now my launcher of choice. Give it a spin, see what you think :way to go:
