If you live outside the US or Canada, I'm unsure as to how quickly Dell will roll out the X3 in your area. I was really expecting the intro level X3 to be at $199 or lower, but given that Dell is still actively selling the X5, it's easy to see where the X3 fits in their product line - the X5 is now the entry-level device.

$229 USD - "300 MHz Axim X3 Handheld with 1-year Advanced Exchange Service Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC, Intel XScale 300 MHz Processor, 32 MB RAM / 32 MB ROM, 240x320 Pixels, 65,536 Colors, 5 Oz. And if you want to be really nice, order from these links and support AximSite. I tried using Dell affiliate links once when the X5 came out, and not only was the entire process a pain to set up, their reporting system didn't show a single click or sale, which I know isn't correct. Not that I'm bitter or anything...

I just don't see how they expect to sell many basics for that pricepoint, even the middle x3 seems high. I see many people sticking with hp with bluetooth.

Weak battery, the Aximsite review says that it only has a 950 mAh battery, with an 1800 mAh as an option.

At least the X3 is fast, it beats the 2215 by a fair margin in the overall SPB score, 1554 to 1146.

It doesnt include both wifi and bt, but to me that isnt a big deal. IF they did add the bt how much more would the price go up on it?
Yeah, I saw that to on the website when I couldnt sleep last night. The ppc manufacturers must realize that battery life is a duh for users. It doesnt matter if that user is a power user or not! That would be like saying onlypower users of cell phones will get more talk time, the rest get crap.

Back in the 1996/97 time frame I used to pine for a network connected device. When I almost bought an HP 1920 a friend of mine suggested that I wouldn't be happy with a non-connected version. He's right. I use the cable/cradle once... to set up the partnership. After that it's wireless networking, bluetooth, VPN and dialup!

If I didn't have those connection options, I'd be forever looking for a comfy place to unpack my laptop just to dock my pocket pc.

Now that's odd...when I looked on Dell's site this morning, about 8:30(eastern time), they had a 10% discount offered. Now it's gone. That sucks. Ah well I can't order it now anyway :)

I was just on Dell's site and it is showing a 10% discount for all 400 MHz X3 and X5 models. The discount expires Thursday, though.

Ah there it is. No discount on the basic version though? That's odd.

not sure its faster than 2215. that test, i believe, showed an out of whack graphics score which boosted it overall. another test at bargainpda.com (i think) showed a normal graphics score and much less impressive overall benchmark.

I agree. I ran those tests 4 times, but kept getting the same results(+/- 2-3%)... I would like to know what conditions and options were set for BargainPDA's review. I guess I will sit back and wait for Jason to get his to see which results are out of whack.

can someone explain why a BETTER model is x3 not 6 or 7??

Just think of it as the lower number indicating the smaller size....

size mattes and dont let anyone tell you differently!:)
it isnt to me that big of a deal. Ihave used the wi fi and like it, but I am not constantly having to. When I am at home I prefer to be on my laptop like right now, posting on the website and surfing. I like to havea lot of screen real estate so that is why forme it wasnt a big deal. If i had my choice i would buy the Fujitsu p1000 and use that as a good mobile device!:) for a pda, I wish I could afford the sonyerr...p800

I just noticed this....

This review and Aximsite's have a good bit of difference in numbers?
Why is this?

Very good question. I retested the X3, and this time I got results more like what they did. I'm updating the review.
