The file store memory is not cleared on a reset (hard or soft) because it is in ROM, not RAM. You'll have to manually delete those files if you want them gone. You can do this from the ipaq or your desktop when your device is connected to a PC. From the desktop, click the "explore" button on the Active Sync window, then My Device, and then there will probably be an icon for "File Store" or something like that (I have an Axim, not an ipaq, so I don't know for sure). Then you should be able to go in and manually delete the files.

If that doesn't work then search on brighthand for file store and fix or repaire. They have/had a program to reset the iPaq file store program, if you can not find this chances are you'll need to send your iPaq back to Hp to have it fixed.

so last night before i read this reply i troubleshooted with hp for over an hour and they suggested that i send it in - after that i found some software called resco explorer and in there there was a utility to format the ROM - and that worked - so im all set.
im sure its the same thing as the software that you were requesting.
but thanks

Hmm I have never had this problem myself, just read about it. Did you tap and hold on the iPAQ File Store, and then from the pop up list use the Format command? Just like to know how you did it. Most Formating programs that I know of will not fix the File Store. I see that the newest version (v4.30) treats it as a Storage Card.
Thanks ;
