So... Tell me why I (a PPC user from day 1 - and overall hater of Palm) should not ditch my 2215 and get a Tungsten T3??? 8O

Just looking for someone to confirm that I should stick wtih PPC -- 'cause I'm not seeing it real clearly...

:?

This depends what you want from the device!

My advice: Wait and watch! there’s gonna be huge competition, you’ll see new innovative devices from both (PPC & Palm)

PPC doesn't eat your SD card when backing up. 8O

Personally I am waiting for HP's VGA resolution with 3D accelerator next year. It's going to be Play station replacement! (well other boring productivity stuff like finally ditching my libretto 50 as carry around spread sheet/calculator)

Wow -- I never asked myself what I want from my PDA... (at least not recently):

1) Good general multi-media device: picture viewer, mp3/wma player, some video
2) Good PIM
3) Good for reading -- ebooks, news,
4) Good Web browser (important)
5) offer strong wireless support
6) Strong email support
7) read office docs
and...
8) have some good games

Then go for a PPC device, however you'll have to buy some great 3rd party applications.

My next PPC must be a Phone Edition device with integrated camera, and it must have at least 123 MB RAM, 64 MB ROM with flash storage, CF I/O optional, built-in Bluetooth, expanded battery, It must run the latest operating system and CPU and the screen must be a Transflective 16 bit 65k colors 3.5” not less!

You see I’m hinting the XDA II  If you ask me what is my next device will be I’ll favor a PPC Phone Edition device over all the Palm Phone devices currently available in the market.

Well, although it is tempting for me too (and I use Palm so perhaps I have even stronger reasons to go for one), I find in the end that what really matters is how good the device covers your functionality needs.

If you let yourself to get amazed at, say, a large high resolution display and the slider/soft graffiti/landscape screen (all cool!) just for themselves and not for what they really will do for you, in the end probably you'll regret your decision.

If what PPC can do while Palm don't, is more important to you, then you know what to do.

In my personal case, again, T3 is VERY tempting, but I'll give up my intentions to view construction plans at my job. So, functionality wise, a PPC should (yes, underscored...) give me more service than a T3. And I see here a lot of convinced users that are happy with the service PPC is giving them to the point most of them handle recognized annoyances like ActiveSync or OS stability.

I am affraid POS and PPC will ALWAYS keep things someone dislike. If not, how will someone decide??? If both Palm and PPC offered comparable resolution, stability, and reliability over syncing, which one would you buy???

I agree.. hopefully we'll see quite a bit of innovation over the next year or so, instead of the horrible stagnation we've been facing lately.

Ever wonder why the acronym for Palm Operating System is POS?

I equate Palm with Apple. They're sexier, but at a large cost in speed, versatility, and expandibility.

I totally agree with the comment "It depends on what you want from your PDA"

If all you want is PIM functions (Calendar, Tasks, ToDo's), then either O/S will do you just fine. Palm has come a long way with their vendors toward providing a lot of other nice to have features as well.

If you want/need a true 'pocket PC', (i.e. something that can operate as a pocket laptop PC) like I do -- taking notes at meetings, checking the web for info away from the desktop, storing reference information, multi-media support, etc.) then you'll probably need something in the Pocket PC O/S line.

But I'm a bit biased, as I have a 2215, and I love it!

Curious -- does PPC do this better than Palm -- does Palm suck at this? I guess I really do use my PPC for notes and such...

Especially in multimedia, Pocket PC does quite well - plays Ogg files, DivX movies, etc...

POS - if ya need $99 organizer

PPC - if you need everything else.

there quick and simple. (no T|T3 isn't even close to ideal PDA. It has stupid slider and no CF or WiFi capability. Definitely a show stopper for a $400 PDA)

I always thought POS stood for "piece of something"

Palm Operating System... that's just the way acronyms work. Crazy, eh? ;-)

Also... Apple currently makes the fastest desktop computer that you can easily buy at the moment.

I have used the palm OS and I just didnt like it after a while. It seemed boring to me. It didnt do what my laptop could do, meaning with a ppc I am more at home because it works like my windows on my laptop. I find it more familiar and i like that. After a bit of use my palm os would give me trouble, it would restart when it wanted to, and other weird stuff. I honestly wasnt sorry to see it go. My next choice was a Diamond mako, it is what I would be using today if it wasnt stolen
I think in the long run, ppc is the better choice. NOt because I am pro microsoft, but because i feel it has more to offer the user.

The tezro is what ... 600MHz though? I think the apple would fly right by it. ;)

Your #5 is a little vague, but you have plenty of options. A Pocket PC is more likely to give you built-in wireless, but both of the new Tungstens have Docs-to-Go 6, which I hear is much better than Pocket Word and Office. They can see native files.

Both are fine for games, but PPC is worlds beyond Palm in the emulation sphere.
