Mobile View platform allows to develop web-like applications with WML/XHTML like interface which can run both with on-line connectivity to the server and in the off-line mode. Client-server protocol allows two side data synchronization and is based upon XML format. Mobile-View provides abstract communication TCP based stack featuring 128-bit strong SSL encryption.
The typical problem which usually appears when developing mobile applications for GPRS and/or Wi-Fi (802.11) networks is that network infrastructure provides mobile devices with so called “fake” IP addresses. These “fake” addresses belong to internal IP networks and could not be reached from the Internet. In other words mobile devices access the internet over the celco’s (or other network infrastructure provider) firewall.
The problem gets deeper when we need to provide an access to the company’s server which should also be located behind the firewall due to security reasons.
Mobile-View solves these problems. Mobile-View gateway along with Mobile- View communication stack provides special means for applications to communicate to other Mobile-View powered applications (residing either on PocketPC devices or Windows/Linux desktops) even if all of them reside behind each own firewall. That is solved by providing Mobile-View gateway server with a “real” internet IP address and placing it either on the Internet or inside the DMZ (de-militarized zone).
The Mobile-View communication stack is specially designed and tested for low-bandwidth connections like GPRS. On the other hand, TrueMobility client-server protocol is also optimized for low-bandwidth links.
We suppose that with such large base of the mobile users (1000 PDA’s) the administration of PDA devices becomes a very important task. Administration of PDA’s becomes a significant part of the total cost of ownership.
That is why we are going to implement user-support functionality on Mobile-View. That will allow system support engineers to manage trouble tickets and follow up on them. System support engineers will be able to access remote PDA, view PDA’s screen, and control PDA remotely. Mobile-View PDA screen capture algorithms are optimized for low-bandwidth connections and allow to remotely controlling Pocket PC devices connected over the GPRS, Wi-Fi, modem link, or ActiveSync (RAPI) connection.
Mobile-View also provides special functionality for remote installation of applications (remote software updates).
Remote system administration of PDA devices based on Mobile-View will allow reducing costs of ownership significantly.
