I am embarrased to ask, but having just got my HP 2215 today
I have no idea how to format the card. Any help much appreciated.

It's embarrassing to tell you that there is no native way. Formatting memory was left to third party solutions. One has been listed. Resco Explorer 2003, latest version, also has that feature and is a wonderful addition to your PPC for many other reasons.

But...for the PPC you got today, I'll bet you don't need to format the SD card if it is also new, and you could just open it and select all the files and delete them from File Explorer.

Speaking of the h2215. How do I remove the cover to the
Compact Flash slot without breaking something?

Formatting some SD cards before use can improve performance drastically for some odd reason.

If you have a card reader you can use Windows to format the SD card.

use your thumbnail under the notch and slide straight up. :)
