I believe the keypad was criticized on the P800, so they made the new one not "push-through", but rather a independent set of buttons, so they feel more like a regular phone. In addition, the use of the jogdial on the side and the business-like colors make this look like a very classy, one-handable phone. If you also look at the comparative pictures, it's not big -- they've reduced the size from the P800.

Given a device like this, I think so-called "PDA phones" could be more successful. All it takes is more OEMs to hop on board and be willing to make a truly seamless hybrid. I use a Pocket PC Phone and love its functionality, but would like to see one of the Phone OEMs be willing to take a plunge into a similar formfactor. And, preferably, without a Memory Stick. ;)

And no, I don't mean to compare the Symbian and Pocket PC Phone OSes here. That's a debate for a different time. ;)

Well another small screen combo. Although I love the keypad but this is not my type of PDA Phone, I will still stick to the 3.5 screen or more, I dont mind if it is a little bigger. But I would be great to have the same h19xx form factor.

That's a nice-lookin' week view, imo!

I'd buy this phone if it ran on some sort of Pocket PC. I guess I'm used to the windows based interface. Although I admit that the new Palms are getting very creative and tempting.

It looks cool, but i think i would cut off my foot before bying a memory stick device... this statement may come back to haunt me as sony takes over the world.

It looks cool, but i think i would cut off my foot before bying a memory stick device... I agree, if I could use this phone with my SD memorycards, I would drop my Axim any day!
But no... I think I'll wait for more PPCPE devices, the XDA needs some competition for the prices to come down.

it is nice - a bit more of a refined look - although some people have been compalining the look is a but Sony Retro (re: CMD-Z18) - but that will definately be a plus compared to the original styling for those who want a bit more conservative look for a business/enterprise handset - unfortunately the mineral grey P800 didn't really make general avaibility (as yet!)
it's a bit more asthetic than a major technical upgrade - but had several people i know waiting on that factor alone...

I think some of the features, like the 5-way jog dial on the side, is what makes this phone a winner. I like the way way Sony keeps taking risks with the way they implement their hardware and not stick to the usual stuff that Pocket PC or Smart Phone companies do. Look at how slick they were to use the small keypad that hides half of the screen so you could have both a PDA sized screen PLUS a regular phone keypad. This thing even has a nice camera...But, it's not PocketPC so I wouldn't buy it. Why can't Sony join the PocketPC/Smart Phone list of OEMs? :D

hasn't been "officially" accounced by Sony Ericsson - supposed to be some news before the end of the month though
it's certainly being tested by a number of operators over here in Europe already - but official details on availability / pricing isn't available just yet

Well,
I'm one the people see this as a good PocketPC companion. Now i use a Ericsson T39m. Bluetooth, Triband (so it works in the US :), and GPRS. And when my Loox stays home (when i have a drink in the local pub), i can still see my calander and contacts. I can directly sync them with the server :).
I agree that the memorystick is a minus. However, it's just memory that you use. I wouldn't use the P900 as a camera anyway.....

Really? I certainly don't remember any remotes from the 80's with a high resolution screen.

I have the P800, itīs really great. I am a pocketpc superfan (almost have more than 10 scince the original cassiopeia) It has been 1 month scince I donīt use my iPAQ5450 (too sad for this), now I use a Tungsten C (wich I prefer from pocket PC for the software and the stability of the OS) but Microsoft needs to bring something much better in the near future, otherwise we are all going to change to palm and this kind of smartphones.
Well Well, SE makes another PDA/Phone.....
I have been using Pocket PCs for about 3 or 4 years now... before that I was on Palm and before that I was on a Windows 3.1 based tablet PC... running a 486Mhz CPU...
I currently own a HP2215 and just bought a Blackberry yesturday, I love this blackberry, it does what I need it to do, which is email, AIM, Tasks, Contacts and Calendar.. My iPaq is sitting again, although I use it as a MP3 player. Now one of the things I always here on these forums are bashing of other manufacture products, and this is no exception, this device is not even out, and people are bashing it. If it is not something that suites your needs then fine, but other people can use these devices. Most people on these forums talk about game-ability.. That is not what a PDA is for..
Let's wait for the device to come out. Besides without competition we would all still be using Palm Pilot 5000s ehehe
Also, People are saying Palm is catching up since they couldn't keep up with PPCs well remember what happened with the turtle and the rabbit... Microsoft needs to wake up. If palm can have hiRes screens, so should PPCs.
Sorry Guys, this is just my 2c

That's not what PDAs used to be for, but now they're a little more like PCs... They are for whatever you want them to be for. There are so many functions that you can't just say a PDA is for this or that only.
