Built-in, or upgradeable? For upgradeable, the original Compaq iPAQ 3650 can run Pocket PC 2002 (mind you, with some of the software installed in RAM). I have one sitting in my closet. ;) It's the first iPAQ that was ever released. (BTW, did anyone ever manage to upgrade a B&W 3150?)
For built-in, I believe the 3700 series was the first (although the 3800 series came shortly thereafter).

The 3100 Series is upgradable to PPC2002. I had my original 3135 upgraded to 64MB by PPCTechs and it runs PPC2002 just fine. I ended up giving it to my Dad for Christmas in 2001.
So, it is by far the earliest 3000 series iPAQ that is upgradable to PPC2002 that I have ever owned.

Sorry to split hairs, but the 36xx was released before the 31xx. The 31xx was released because they had a shortage of displays and the 36xx was selling so hot that Compaq thought they could find a market for a Black and White and lower cost. There was a time when the 36xx was selling for $1000 on eBay.

Please note that I said it was the earliest 3000 series device that I have ever owned.
I bought my 3135 BEFORE I bought my 3635. :)
Kind Regards,
