Is there a way to access files on my PPC (I have a Toshiba e740), using a USB cable, without drivers? Similar to how a jumpdrive/pendrive works? The problem is, in the computer labs here at school, I don't have access privileges to install the PPC drivers, though a jumpdrive works fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, it can't be done - sorry. Until Windows starts to come with some sort of generic "device sync" client, ActiveSync is the only way to get it to work. It would be cool though if you could dock a device and have it show up using a mass storage driver...

would a usb card reader work (like a sandisk cruzer)?

I don't have one (I use a laptop / pc card adapter), so I am not sure if you need to load a driver.

You could use it to transfer files w/ an sd card, but not to do any type of syncing.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the quick replies. Sad that this isn't currently possible; seems like an obvious feature, but it's probably easier said than done.

If you had the usb host module for the e740, I wonder if the usb jumpdrive you have would be recognized (by the e740).

That could be a potential way to tranfer files.

Actually a driver is needed, but it is included in the OS in W2K and XP. When you stick one of these in the first time, you'll see the drivers being loaded. I have seen workstations locked down to the point even that doesn't happen.
