They even have pictures of the internal circuit boards for the technically-inclined.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/toshiba-e805.jpg" />

I was looking through the user guide for and on pg. 163, it mentioned that the screen was 320x240, standard PPC res. So it doesn't sound all that impressive now.

Here's the original topic with the rumored specs http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18212
At least I can see the wifi chip, and they really compacted the CF and SD slots well.
Here's the part about the "expansion pack":
Parts and Functions of the Expansion Pack:
The Cradle Connection Port allows you to connect the Expansion Pack to the Cradle.
The RGB (Monitor) Port is a standard 15-pin RGB port for connecting an external display device such as a monitor or projector (640 x 480 64K colors @ 60Hz and 800 x 600 64K colors @ 60Hz).
The USB Port allows you to connect USB keyboard to the Pocket PC. Release Button: When pressed, the Release Button releases the Expansion Pack from the Toshiba Pocket PC e800/e805.
CRADLE CONNECTION PORT
Only IA-Presenter and IA Screen Mirror (see page 193) can output the image to the external monitor. Other applications cannot output the image to the external monitor.
Use only a Microsoft Pocket PC compatible keyboard.
So I guess the 'output' to VGA will only be through this "IA" program. And use a Pocket PC compatible keyboard? Suuuuure.

someone mentioned over on brighthand that this model doesn't make sense.

it's specs (according to the fcc pdfs) are virtually identical to the e750, except it's bigger and costs more.

I tweaked it around a bit in photoshop:

Nice tweak Bruno.
Yes, very nice. It looks much better turned on and without that hideous blueish tint. 8)

That appears to be a typo:

The user manual (draft) tells you how to switch from VGA 320X240 to QVGA 320X240... :-)

Given that the display is a Sharp 4" VGA panel, its more likely that they meant VGA 640 by 480 and QVGA 320 by 240, especially since the system needs to reset to change the resolution.

Depending on pricing, I'd be very interested in this baby...

Man that is one ugly pocket PC. It looks like the PPC version of the original Palm Zire.

It's because Genio has the speaker on side, instead of center like iPAQ, which mean either TOshiba clump the button together in the middle like that or spread it on top between the D-pad and screen like the genio E55G. BUt since it has 4 inch screen, the device will be slightly shorter with what middle design.

As much as I hate what Toshiba did to us E740 owners, I'd still look at this unit.
*Built in WiFi
*2 slots (CF/SD)
*USB Host

No other device has all that, I don't think ... and the new Dell X3 won't have a CF slot... I own too much CF mem and too many accessories to give that up. I'm real curious to see a price ...

I'd extend that red bit along the entire length as a racing stripe! ;)

Actually the e750/55 has all that...

Isn't it possible that the VGA mode is simply a virtual 640*480 screen which you scroll around - ie. the LCD is 320*240 but the desktop is 640*480????

I'd like this to be a genuine 640*480 lcd panel but of course there'd be an issue of who'd make one if Toshiba was the only customer - is the build run large enough for a single customer?

Just a technicality but I keep reading the comment that the "toshiba e750/755 has all that". The e750 does not have port that you can plug a usb cable directly into, you need an adapter($100) extra. This is the first pocket pc (in the US) that has a direct usb plug in.

I also just realized that this picture looks like it is missing it's side panels. I may be wrong, but maybe they are sticking with that idea.

What's with the stubby stylus? I wonder if it extends to normal stylus length?

Yeah, and the body is made from titanium, not plastic.

The NEC MobilePro had that years ago, but the rest of the device was horrible. ;)

Actually, "technically" if you buy it along with a $369.99 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009K7ES/qid=1064543529/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-2614442-8917545?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846) e755, it will only cost you $25 (when using this rebate form (http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/rebate_to_pocketpc_expan_120103.pdf))... :D

Generally I like the look of it - especially after the sympathetic photoshop treatment! The buttons look abit strange though, I for one would prefer a more traditional layout.

From what the manual says, you still need an expansion pack, except this one will have the VGA adapter on it. Isn't that what you gather?

If you "need an adapter" than you cannot DIRECTLY plug a usb cable into the unit. Instead you INDIRECTLY plug in a USB cable.

The real story on this thing is the built in RGB port (which doesn't require an adapter). However, I doubt that the LCD will have VGA level resolution as some have anticipated. They've likely heard about the EXTERAL resolution and thought this meant the screen suppoted it.

This is not an odd conclusion. A lot of notebooks support higher resolutions on their external port than on their LCD (for obvious reasons). PocketPC means 240x320. Until Microsoft changes the brand standard, a vendor cannot release a higher resolution unit labeled PocketPC.

THIS UNIT IS DEFINITELY VGA!!!
I am 100% certain of it.

Wanna know how? 8)

Scroll to page 2. Read line that mentions LCD module. Read VGA.

If you are still skeptical.

Click this link http://sharp-world.com/products/device/ctlg/esite23/table/005.html

Look for aforementioned LCD module.. .It's a CG Silicon 640x480 VGA unit (Keep in mind sharp manufactures Linux PDAs, one of which is a clamshell device with a 640x480 screen... )
