I am forced to use GroupWise 6.5 at work. I recently upgraded to WM2003 on my Dell Axim and decided to try and have GW and Outllook 2002 coexist since my WM2003 upgrade broke my Intellisync connection (which I hated anyway). I also am running Activsync 3.7.

I noticed 2 issues with Contacts:
1. New contacts do not show up in Outllo (alkll my existing ones did show up)

2. Contacts are not synching at all through Activesync.

Is there anyone out there that has had this issue? (better yet, resolved it!)

Thanks

I have to use Groupwise at work also. I despise it. Anyway, long story short, our IT guy and myself tried to make it work, and came to the conclusion that Outlook and Groupwise don't play well together. So I use Groupwise for work email and the company address book only, and let the PPC sync with Outlook only.

Can you get the Contacts to sync? Even the ones in Outlook are not synching for me.

Thanks

Yes, my contacts, tasks, calendar, and notes sync with Outlook. When I first open it after a reboot, I get a pop up named "choose profile." I have to select "microsoft outlook internet settings", instead of the other option which is novell something or other. If I choose the novell option, or I set outlook to automatically open the outlook option by default, it hoses everything up and the IT guy has to come fix it. But if I let it prompt me for the profile to use when I start outlook, then everything is fine.

I am not getting the choose profile option when establing a partnership thru ActiveSync. I did not see any of the choices you mentioned. Are you synching through ActiceSync 3.7?

I may have to work to get Intellisync workoing again just to synch my contacts. ActiveSync is working great for Calendar, Tasks and Files.

Thanks for your help.

I'm using AS 3.7. I just tried to find the option in Outlook that would generate the pop up message, but I can't find it. I'm using Office XP at home, though, and the previous version of Office at work. The newest version must not have that option, or perhaps it only shows up on a Novell network. I can look when I get back to work in the morning and see if I can find the option there.

It's odd that it's working with everything except for contacts. Are you sure Intellisync is completely uninstalled? Is Outlook set as your default contacts handler?

I really appreciate your help.

Here is what I have installed:
1. Group Wise 6.5
2. Outlook 2002
3, Active Sync 3.7
4. Office XP
5. Windows XP
6. Intllisync (which is not working right now)
7. WM2003

In GroupWise I have an address book called Frequent Contacts. That is what is feeding my Contacts in Outlook. I have no idea why Outlook is using this address book since I have set all the options in the Outlook address book to look at a different GroupWise address book.

I have no contacts on my PPC since I upgraded to WM2003.

Intellisync is still installed ln both PC and PPC but not really in the equation since I would assume it is invisible to GroupWise and ActiveSync.

I have given up on EVER get this to work. The GroupWise-Intellisync thing is a total failure in my book. Could never keep it working for longer than a couple weeks for tasks and appts. Contacts were bad from the start and never worked right. After losing all of my contacts in a synching snafu (once again Intellisync BLOWS, Sprite Backup ROCKS) I swore I would never risk my contacts on this crappy arrangement again.

I tried it once with Outlook-Groupwise-Activesync and all I got was synch errors.

It is simply not worth the effort for me to troubleshoot this any longer. I sync my contacts at home with Outlook. I was able to get a csv text file of our corp. contacts and imported it into Outlook at home. Luckily the info is fairly static, I can manage most of the changes on my PPC. Occasionally I will do a complete refresh by extracting a new csv file, deleting all my corp contacts in Outlook at home, synching, import the updated list and then synch again. Its a PITA but its never failed me yet.

Sorry to rain on the parade. I'll be watching to see if someone can make this work. I am sure PumaTech support will be watching too so maybe they can have the answer.

OK...I found the option. This is with Groupwise 5.5 and Outlook 2002.

Under Tools-Options-Mail Services-Startup Settings, I have it set to "prompt for profile" instead of setting it to use a profile automatically. My choices are a Novell profile and an Outlook profile. I have to choose Outlook each time I open Outlook. If I set it to do it automatically, for some reason I lose the address book in Groupwise which is maintained by the IT dept. The Groupwise email will still work, I just have to know the address, I can't select it from the company address book.

I think the reason I don't have any trouble is that I've never tried to get Outlook or Activesync to talk to Groupwise. I use Groupwise for company email, and that's it. I don't need the contact info for all 500 employees at my company, so I picked the few I did need and manually entered them into Outlook. I've never tried to have Outlook import data from Groupwise, because I imagined it turning into something like what you're describing.

I got the latest and greatest version of Intellisync and that works with WM2003. I turned off contacts on ActiveSync and setup and Intellisync to sync contacts only. Life is good (for now!). My calendar and tasks are synching real time thru ActiveSync, and I can kick off a sync with my contacts when I so desire with Intellisync. I don't sync email.

Good luck to all you GroupWise users.

Thanks again for all of the input on this.

Cheers

Did you have to pay for the upgrade?
