Oh man! Not Fare!!! I'm lusting for one of these for some time but can't find it anywhere in Portugal. Just some bulky ones with cable. And you can have one now for free! Not fare!

Isn't there a charitable soul  (wich happens to already own one of these) who can order this and send it to me? I'll pay shipping of course.

The PDF rebate form (http://image.ak.outpost.com/art/rebates_pdf/3638295.pdf) I downloaded from the page last night before I ordered is valid for purchases made between 2003-09-05 through 2003-09-26. Must be postmarked within ten days of purchase. Try downloading the form again; maybe they updated it since you originally looked.

...if you happen to have a newer laptop that lacks an IR port...
Why IS that, anyway? I mean, there are still plenty of mobile phones and other devices that people like to synch via IR, right? Why is it that my POS IBM 300mHz notebook has an IR port and not my 2gHz sweetie?

This could be handy for me at school  There is no direct link from my PDA to all of our school computers. Plug and play and no drivers? Excellent. I will be getting one of these :D And plus my cell phone can hook up to this aswell :D

Yeah i've noticed that newer laptops have dropped all the non essentials. IR & com ports are things of the past. in the old days IR was a way of printing to an HP printer but it didn't catch on. com ports are now replaced by usb ports.

if your phone/pda/whatever ir device needs to sync with your laptop or pc you can easily upgrade with these usb ir dongles. I modded my HP IR module to work on my asus mobo. but found it was not of any use except syncing my phone. I had used my casio to msn through IR a long time ago but it's laughable now.

I'm looking for a way to control my Direct TV or a cable box using my PC through the internet. Anyone know how?

The reason why I want to do it is because I want to watch streaming cable news on my Pocket PC, like CNBC for example. I have my computer next to my Direct TV receiver. I can turn it on in the morning, and start Windows Media Encoder to stream any output video to my Pocket PC when I leave for work. That part is easy.

Some time during the afternoon, CNBC gets boring. I would like to change the channel on my Direct TV, so that I can watch something different, like HBO for example.

One way I was thinking of doing was using an IRDA universal remote program, like the ones people have made for Pocket PC. Problem is, I don't know of any that is made for a Windows PC. Plus, I like to be able to control my channel over the internet. Like open a web page, press a button which sends a signal to my computer to send an IR signal to change channel on my Direct TV receiver. Anyone know of such program?

I got it and I installed the drivers but I can't seem to get it to sync my PPC or anything. :? Does anybody else have theirs working? The funny thing is there is absolutely NO software included other than a driver so I have no idea if mine even DOES work!

Just an update, I got it working! Aparently, I had to set my PPC in "discoverable" mode. Anyways, I ordered it around 7 at night one day and THE VERY NEXT DAY I recieved it! 8O And I only paid $6 for shipping! :D Now, does anyone know how to get this to work with printers... (not that I've tried yet) 8)
