Anyone else experiencing this?

For the first week I had my 2210 I was experiencing freezes all over the place. Mostly when I wasn't using it - ie. I would pull it out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on. Or I'd wake up in the morning and find it on (in the cradle), but frozen. Or, it'd be off in the cradle, I'd pull it off the cradle, then try to powerup to no avail.

In each case a soft reset brings it back.

I tried doing a Hard Reset and installing *only* the Socket Wifi drivers (latest available on their site) and using for 24h. Same thing.

Based on threads I read plus info I heard from another 2210 user I figured there might be a problem with the 2210, specifically possibly a problem with the CF slot, apparently a number of 2210s had CF slot problems. So I exchanged the 2210 for another one.

Same problem. So just to be sure it wasn't the specific card, I exchanged the Socket card for another Socket card. Same problem.

So I picked up a D-Link wifi card. The iPaq hasn't frozen since. The card works like a charm, and in fact seems to be more reliable than the Socket card. (The socket card seemed to experience occasional periods where it would stop receiving packets unless I initiated a connection from the ipaq. Not good for maintaining a persistent Activesync connection via TCP.)

So it seems to me that there's a problem using the Socket card with the latest drivers on the 2210. But I haven't heard of this from anyone.

Anyone else experiencing this or have a solution? I'd prefer to use the Socket card if I can make it reliable because of the smaller form factor...

I have the HP2215 and Socket CF Wi-Fi and have used it for many hours at different access points with no problems what so ever. (touch wood, fingers crossed, pray to God or other super natural being.)

Sorry to hear about your problems even after exchanging the 2215.

If you installed the 2002 OS drivers (what is on the CD) you have to fully uninstall them. I think a hard reset is the only way to be sure.... sorry, maybe there is another way, but I do not know it. Then install the latest 2003 drivers. I have the latest drivers and have never had a problem.

Starting with a clean iPaq (out of the box) and installing the latest drivers only for PC 2003, I experience this problem. Could it really be that I just need to find another hp2210, that perhaps two are experiencing the same problem?

Frankly, I'm amazed noone else here seems to have the problem. I'm on my third 2210 now, 2nd Socket card, and I still exhibit the problem. A clean 2210 with no apps installed, just the latest Socket drivers and the wifi card installed and it freezes periodically on shutoff or trying to turn it on after it's been on the cradle.

I found a handful of people on Socket's website who have the problem as well, but really there's noone here? Very strange.

Of course, if Socket actually believed in customer service they might return my email and phone call to them. It's been a week and no response from either channel. *sigh*... Guess I'm stuck with using my D-Link card.....

Actually, I wish I had read your post yesterday because I thought there was something wrong with my Socket card so I just RMA'd mine. Therefore another busted one is probably on it's way. I am having exactly the same problem you are with my 2215 and Socket CF WiFi combo. I have to continuously pull my Socket card out of the device and plug it back in and the device works fine for about 10-30 seconds, then it freezes again.

OTOH, I am using a colleague's Socket card, and I don't seem to be having any problem with his card. The only difference between his card and mine, AFAICT, is that his is labelled "Made in USA" and mine is labelled "Made in Taiwan". However, his card isn't perfect either. With his card, there are no free ups while using the device, but whenever I take the device off of the cradle (from a hotsync) it freezes. Again, fix is the unplug and replug the Socket card.

I guess the next step will be to try a different CF WiFi card, or an SD WiFi.

On a completely separate note: are any/all of you having the Activesync-Wifi-Guest problem. My 2215 syncs fine in the cradle over USB, however if I try to sync over WiFi, ActiveSync doesnt recognize the partnership. It only sees the device as Guest. No matter what I do (soft resetting device, reinstalling Activesync, rebooting PC, reinstalling PocketHosts, making sure all settings with PocketHosts/Activesync/Network settings are correct), I cannot get it to work. Has anyone else gotten this to work?

Have a peek at the Brighthand forums and also the GPS Passion ones - PPCT seems a bit behind on the issue(s) to be honest...?
