I was wondering what opinions people had about the various mp3 recorders out there for the ppc.

Here's what I've tried:
Program impression
1. resco sound recorder: Playback- It seems to play back not very clearly with pops and crackles. I also noticed it hesitated playing as I had other programs going.
recording- external microphone set to 21 db gain on ipaq 55XX it sounds loud enough to record a class lecture. Overload only once when the whole class laughed at a comment.

2. vito sound explorer Playback- clearer sound. No crackles or pops when played. Seems like a louder volume. No hesitation with multiple programs running. Recording- got less of a chance to test this (not a chance with external mic. but it seems to record ok.

3. protone playback- seemed ok but didnt try it much
recording- limited to 10 seconds in demo version therefore couldn't evaluate it much

Conclusion- leaning towards vito sound explorer. It seems to work well on ppc 2003. Just wondering if anyone had any opinion on these 3 programs or if there was any thing better out there?

I use NoteM (http://www.geocities.com/zavorine/wince/mp3.htm). It is free and records in MP3 16kbs.

My fave so far for mp3 recording is Vito's. It appears to handle mp3 better than anything else I have tried.

Dean, thanks for your post. I'm a little intrigued, but I haven't had a lot of reason to use a voice recorder (beyond what's already available with a PPC).

Be aware that when I clicked on your link, I got an insidious pop-up ad that was meant to look like a DOS-style "blue screen of death" except it was advertising some privacy protection software. I don't like pop-up ads in the first place, but I detest pop-up ads that are meant to mimic operating system messages.

NoteM will let you record longer then the standard note recorder.

Yeah I know that. It is on his site. I think it is because it is GeoCity site.
