View Full Version : Being asked again to download MS Reader

A month or so ago, days after buying my first PPC, I went through the
rigmarole of downloading and installing the latest MS Reader and
'activating' it. I've since downloaded and read several books from the
MS free books page, as well as buying one or two.

This morning I went to the page again
http://www.microsoft.com/reader/promotions/free_shop.asp
and clicked to download Fatal Tide by Iris Johansen. But I got this message:

"You'll need to install and activate the current version of Microsoft
Reader before you can download these Owner-Exclusive titles. Both
steps are required to view Owner-Exclusive titles."

I then went to
http://www.microsoft.com/reader/en/update/default.asp
where I answered YES to the request "May we check your current Reader configuration?". But the result is:

"Your version of Microsoft Reader may be out of date, or Microsoft Reader may not be installed. Please download and install the appropriate file below, to ensure that you have the latest version:"
etc

But, as I said, I *have* the latest version, and it *is* activated. I can read my existing LIT books, free and bought, on my PC and my PPC.

What's going on here please? Why should I need to do this again? I
already have *two* MS Readers on my PPC: the original, built-in,
useless one, and the one that I've been using for a month or so...

I updated then too!

Have this morning bitten bullet and re-installed from MSReaderSetup.exe (from my last update), and pleased to say I was then able to download the ebook.

What a performance for a free book!

In fact, this whole activation stuff and over-complicated update hassle rather turns me off MS Reader. Pity, as it's a neat program...
